Spook: That behavior sounds really strange.  What server was it on?  I'm not sure what your screenshot is showing.  You're getting over 300fps, so it doesn't look like framerate lag, and there's no netgraph to show any network lag.

It was one of the Graffiti paint servers, and the SS is only there because it lagged at 1337 :P. We had to play the whole match getting completely lagged for no reason and it was terrible. Maybe the demo from pbcup would show more? I'll take a look at it later.

personally I'd like to see all the servers cut down to 12 max, and have them all full with 12 people, instead of doing one server with 30 people, and the rest empty.
Motion seconded.

Thirded, but maybe up that to 16. Playing just becomes impossible with more than that many people in a server.

Ok, I played on Graffiti for a while today (well, didn't actually play, just observed in the background since I was at work).  There were no lag spikes for a long time, even with 25+ people.  Several people had come and gone.  Then two people connected with build 18 at the same time and there was a lag freeze for about 2 seconds, server side.  I think it has to do with the DNS resolution of dplogin.com, since the UDP packet sending should be instant.  If I cache the IP, then it should make those lag spikes go away.

Whatever you need to do, do it. It was ridiculous how bad the lag was yesterday.

Please let me know when you have done so and we'll see if that helps.   Hopefully everyone can give updated input after the fact.   I also talked to Snipen this morning and I believe it is his intention to revert back to an older build.  I'll call him and try to get him to hold off until we see if this helps the problem.

-Thanks

Looks like the new version helped the server side lag a lot.  There are still a couple issues with client side lag caused by the file checking.  I'm looking into resolving this.

Edit: 1.902 is here temporarily, for any other servers that might want to upgrade (linux only right now): http://dplogin.com/files/servers/linux/gamei386.so

...How does one stair, exactly? Stair is kind of a noun.

This sounds like the same problem with my server at the moment. It was fine before i updated the server to b18, now every few minutes i get the freezing up where it goes back and forwards, then its fine for a couple of minutes and so on. Its not just me getting this on my server either.

I have never experienced any lag spikes on any servers at all but it may be related to the fact that people are using different builds or something similar I heard that somewhere can't remember where though.
