"Official" Swamptime Thread
« on: May 28, 2007, 07:31:45 PM »
Ok, since swamptime finished first in the poll, (closely followed by 8ight), it's my next project. So i decided it needs an official thread where i post screenshots, details, etc. Also, I need ideas for this map, and maybe if someone could help me get some models, this could actually start looking like a dense swamp. I will post some shots of what i have right now. Also, I'll put a bsp file so you can preview this map. Please post any ideas/if you can help me with models/whatever. Remember this map is still in progress so don't be surprised if it's rather small or is impossible to play in ctf/elim modes (Only one base is done).

In the first screenshot the fog looks a little too dense to me. Maybe make it more like a mist or something.

I don't think so. The thick fog will make gameplay very interesting.

Yeah but I would just like to see a little farther. Wait that is the point of the fog to make people not see.

So then you like the fog, and admit it would make an interesting, new type of gameplay?  :)

The wood texture looks bad, there is no detail in the walls or ground.

Smack, do you have a hi-res texture package, or the HR4 Textures from this site?
They'll look a lot better in screenshots.
It doesn't look like you have it, or maybe you just scaled lots of textures.

Haven't updated this in awhile... Anyways, I added a new area, the underground cavern. And yes i know, the texture for the lights in shot 3, along with most of the other textures, look bad, I will fix them later. This is just the idea. Also, I will fix the walls and ceiling to look less flat.  Anyways...

Shot1 = entrance to underground cavern
Shot2= Hallway
Shot3= the cavern
Shot4= one of the lighted crystals

You need to work on making it look less boxy.  Clipping planes are your friend.

I'm currently remaking the entire underground cavern. I didn't like how it looked in the first place.  :P

K, post a screenie when you're done.  Also, what texture is that at the entrance to the underground cavern?

Cheers,

Sorry,  :P i haven't been in the mood for mapping in a while, plus i've been gone for almost 2 weeks, but here are some screenshots. I haven't remade it yet, but I've changed the textures and it looks a lot better.

#1 Texture i used in entrance
#2 New hallway textures
#3 The streaming light and how to make it in your maps

Update:

I scrapped the underground cavern, I wasn't liking it. Instead, I made a giant waterfall at the end of the stream, plus a bridge system to get down and up. If you want to try the map now, I'll include another preview, along with some screenshots.

the lighting kind of messed it up, but they're vines.

in ss2 the vines look to thick, maybe thinner and a brighter green color?
