Not many people actually play quake at QuakeCon. :)  Ok, well, maybe a lot do, but it's not like it's the only thing that gets played.  There are tons of things going on there.

This might give you a better idea of what you're in for: http://jitspoe.planetquake.gamespy.com/events/quakecon_2006.html

Um. I will start a manual slap in the back of the head for those not playing quake and exclaim "Quake is your god idiot, forsake all others."

I am sure to make lots of friends that are not one already.

what's this?? a l33t event that's actually within driving distance? :D interesting ... but i still probably won't go.
actually, after reading jitspoe's dissertation on the 2006 event, it seems that it could possibly have been held in dallas since who knows when.

..exactly. i am teh antithesis of hardcore leet gamer, i know nothing. but most of such people started young. i, however was not afforded such a luxury.
**stops before he gets into a rant about how he wishes he was awesome at gaming and other extra-leet computer stuff**
 :'(
..but it's probably all because the parents can't afford broadband.
**stops before he gets into a rant about being semi-poor when all his friends aren't**

ah well. i get like this when i'm tired. :-\ good night.

oh ... loial: (sheepishly) i've never really played quake. but you might have already guessed.

Really struggling with this decision here.  If I go, I'll be home for one week after I get back from this vacation and be off again.  Plus I forgot to look into getting tickets earlier, so I'd have to pay over $400 for plane tickets now.

$400 doesn't sound that bad. How low would it have been if you gotten them earlier?

Tickets are less than $300 if purchased early enough.  Maybe even less than $250.  The other problem is vacation time.  I only have 3 days of vacation left.  That's it.  It's barely enough to cover QuakeCon, but then I won't be able to take any more time off for the rest of the year, and I know I'm going to need to take at least 1 or 2 more days off.  Looks like I just won't be able to make it this year.  I apologize to the 3 people who are planning to go, but I'm sure you'll still have plenty of fun with the other QuakeCon events.  Be sure to check out the hypnotist if he's there again this year -- most entertaining thing I've seen in my life.

Heh, for some reason I ran across some pics of that on J's Joint.  You were with the kid with a weird name.. Bjork? I don't know.
