Incredibly Slow Running
« on: June 30, 2007, 11:11:41 AM »
Hey All

I just installed pb2 on Ubuntu 6.10, but when I run it, it is incredibly slow.  If I move the mouse, it takes about fifteen seconds for the cursor to respond.  How can I fix this?

You might want to specify your computer specs.

Let's see.  I've got 512mb ram, a 1.1Ghz processor, and a 40G hard drive.  It's not much (I built it from scrap parts), but I ran PB2 without any trouble on it before when I had windows.

I forgot - I don't have a graphics card, but like I said, it ran fine in windows.

I'd say it's a driver problem. Are you able to run other games on it at a decent speed?

I'd imagine I have an onboard card.  I have an ATI Rage128, but I can't use it because Ubuntu won't boot properly with it (the desktop won't load).
As far as the driver goes, pb2 is the only game I've tried running.  If it is a driver problem, how would I update it?  I know it's not a hardware problem because the game has run before on a different OS.
Thanks for the help so far.

It sounds like you had a Rage128 when you used Windows, but now that you use Ubuntu, which won't boot with it, you've removed?
Please verify this information; it could be the problem.

Cheers,
Mike.

You might have to much stuff on your computer taking up space...things you don't need..pb needs enough space to run the frames per second...and if you don't have much room it's not gonna work as well.
I had limewire on my computer and pb was running really slow...and once I saw how much space all the files took up I deleted it and pb ran a lot faster and I don't lag anymore.

Just save yourself the grief and use windows. :P

But, yeah, it does sound like a driver issue.  There may not even be an appropriate video driver for Linux, so good luck.
