WORLD SERIES OF DIGITAL PAINT

Brief Summary: In the spirt of the World Series of Poker, I have decided to run a
DP Tournament series consisting of many different tournaments spread out over the course
of a few weeks. Scheduling in pending and will be varied, and users may play in as many
or as few events as they wish. All events in the series will be single elimination unless
otherwise noted. Tournaments will incorporate seeding by website voting when applicable
(as most of the other pbcup related tournaments I have ran in the past).

What I need from the community:
A. Website Hosting -- I need access to a PHP enabled webspace/domain with at least 1 MySQL database available.
B. Servers -- In order to successfull run this event, available and dedicated servers are a necessity
C. Prize donations (?) -- Winning a tournament is in itself enough of an ego boost, however actual prizes never hurt.

Schedule of all events is pending. I would like input on some of the communities favorite maps for 1vs/2vs/3vs/4vs/6vs
gameplay, so that we can use these in some of the events.

General Summary of Event Types:
1. Championship Events -- Played similar to actual dp matches, best 2/3 maps.
2. SM Events -- One map match.
3. Deathmatch Event -- Shootout format deathmatch where top x% advance to the next round.
4. State/Area Battle Event -- Random teams created from players location (state/providence/city/etc).
5. Survivor Event -- Similar to Zimbu's attempt a few years ago, elimination team voting, immunity, etc.
6. Tournament of Champions -- players with highest combined player points* entered into this tournament.

*players accumulate "player points" by their cumulative performance in any events entered. At the end of the
series there will be a WSODP Player of the Year.

Again, this is a very tentative post to gauge community interest and support for such a tournament structure. Please
respond with any input, and of anyone wishing to help let me know.

Much more information to follow soon.

Sounds pretty hard to organize.

So it´s open tournament for anyone?

And when you think it´ll start?

Sounds great. I don't think I'd join in, unless for the area event, but spectators had better be allowed. ;)

I'll be working on the Word Series of Pangya while you're working on this.

I also may be able to help with the webhosting if no one else can. I'll talk to ya on irc sometime tomorrow before raping you in pangya i'm sure.

This sounds intense. I think it would be hard to get people to cooperate with the schedules and rules. But who knows, I'd be happy to help with whatever.

Not sure if its too much to ask tbh. Perhaps something on a smaller scale would be better for us. A smaller-scale tournament/series that follows through to the end is better than a larger scale one that falls apart.

Yeah I must agree with Lekky there, but you never know. Maybe this is the thing to bring DP up. And I honestly hope it´ll work.

A large number of events shouldn't be any more subject to falling apart than a smaller one, since people can play as many or as few as they like. I will collect more info on servers and such soon once I get the web-based stuff setup, thanks for the support!

I will have to retract the web hosting offer. Although I can provide it now, I am not sure how long I can keep it up.

This sounds like a good idea, that last tournament brought lots of old and new people to the matching scene, but the whole tournament was a mess because of the people that were organizing the tournament were alowed to bend the rules and it was very unorganized. This World Series sounds much more fun and looks to be much more organized.

How can a tournament where nothing is organized so far look more organized than a tournament that already occurred and was successful?

If you have been  around for any of the tournaments I have ran you would know that it will be much more organized than this weekends tournament (which was, although successfull, a mess)... =)
