help with connecting to server with IP address

Ok, one thing I really want to know but don't is how to follow a server number in the game of dp? You know, 8889.8776.87800:86798 (that was just a made-up number). I go to console and type it in hoping I can follow it, but it says "unknown cammand" and I can't follow it. What are the punctuation dots between numbers? Are they commas or periods, I can't see them all that well. If you could tell me how to follow them, that would be great! Thanks.

They're dots. That's just the server's IP address, and the port you're connecting on.

You need to type:
connect <ip address>

Do what Cobo said and if you can't see the dots then you need to get glasses but those are periods.

I could see them, I just didn't know whether they were periods or commas.

Look, I don't like subjects, they aren't my thing. I HATE subjects. Why do others hate stuff without subjects. And where did this "help with connecting to server with IP address" ever come about?! I never typed that. I don't like all these subjects, just take my word for it.
