« on: July 15, 2007, 03:46:56 AM »
Post your one of your most favourite songs, with lyrics, and youtube link, here. Then the next person watches the video, with the lyrics, says what they think of it, then post theirs. And so it carries on... You can post more than once, but not succesively and only 1 song per post please.

The Levellers - Riverflow

I met you in 82, over a crate of beer and not a few
I cracked a can and so did you, we're gonna change the world
The ghetto Kings of downside town-the estates and parks of our hallowed ground
Doing anything that we found, and on the river flowed

You'd take a drink from the Rev. Jimmy Jones
You'd cross the street on the path the gunman roams
Thrown aside and left to waste, that was you-you knew your place
Wander round, get off your face, and on the river flowed

On and on the riverflow-we the undertow CHORUS
On and on the riverflow-we the undertow

I don't know how you made it through all the smoke and brew you do
It sure has left its mark on you, but you're still with us today
Life goes onand round we go and words can kill these things I know
Sometimes you cut me deeply so, but on the river flows

You'd set the table for the barber Sweeney Todd
You'd clip the wings of any rising god
But man can't live on hope alone, it can be cut, all that is grown
Broke your spirit but not your bones, and on the the river flows

CHORUS

You're working now-forced to the race
I know it left a bitter taste
But the rising tide has covered your face
Nothing you can do
But I still remember the day you said
That river flowing through my head
Would take me far or leave me dead
And all you said was true.

And on
And on
And on
And on
The river flows

Pretty good, liked the folkish elements of it. The melody isnt something spectacular though. Ive seen better lyrics, not a single line what you would remember.
Enough? Good.

Guess my favourite song at the moment is sonata arctica - my land
Lyrics:
My own land has closed its gates on me
All alone in world, it's scaring me

I am here to prove you wrong
I'm accused to something I live for

In my dreamland, there's one who understands
A friendly soul, trusting life in your hand

Yes, I gave it all I can
Now it's invaded by a stranger

Keep in mind what you have heard today
You might find that you are not so brave
Are you man enough, carrying the load all alone
When others have your own

My old land is but a pile of sand
Cold and bare but something still is there

Yes, I gave it all I can
Now it's invaded by a stranger

Keep in mind what you have heard today
You might find that you are not so brave
Are you man enough, carrying the load all alone
When others have your own

I'm a (true) patriot, you are my land,
you have my soul, you have all I had
Now I am here, and I want it back

In my dreams, I climb the hills I see
and let a gentle breeze lead me to
plains I once have seen and
Clear blue sky, I swim in lakes I find
I build a house right there
that you can't take, never take away

I am here to claim my land
you can't keep me away, forever

Keep in mind what you have heard today
You might find that you are not so brave

Are you man enough, carrying the load all alone
When others have your own [2 times]

Nice I enjoyed the song made me open up my ozzy folder.

Here is one I like, maybe not my most favorite but one of my favorite vidoes for sure.

She said 'I've seen you in here before'
I said 'I've been here a time or two'
She said 'Hello, my name is Bobby Jo
Meet my twin sister Betty Lou
And we're both feeling kinda wild tonight
And you're the only cowboy in this place
And if you're up for a rodeo
We'll put a big Texas smile on your face'
I said 'Girls,'

[CHORUS:]
I ain't as good as I once was
I got a few years on me now
But there was a time back in my prime
When I could really lay it down
And if you need some love tonight
Then I might have just enough
I ain't as good as I once was
But I'm as good once as I ever was

I still hang out with my best friend Dave
I've known him since we were kids at school
Last night he had a few shots
Got in a tight spot hustlin' a game of pool
With a couple of readneck boys
One great big bad biker man
I heard David yell across the room
'Hey buddy, how 'bout a helping hand.'
I said 'Dave,'

[CHORUS:]
I ain't as good as I once was
My how the years have flown
But there was a time back in my prime
When I could really hold my own
But if you wanna fight tonight
Guess thouse boys dont look all that tough
I ain't as good as I once was
But I'm as good once as I ever was

I used to be Hell on wheels
Back when I was younger man
Now my body says 'You can't do this boy'
But my pride says 'Oh, yes you can.'

I ain't as good as I once was
Thats just the cold hard truth
I still throw a few back, talk a little smack
When I'm feelin' bullet proof
So don't double dog dare me now
'Cause I'd have to call your bluff

I ain't as good as I once was
But I'm as good once as I ever was
Maybe not be good as I once was
But I'm as good once as I ever was

I'm gonna have to agree with SmPeR.

Hahaha keith! Can't really hear that song very well on this poor laptop but from the lyrics it looks pretty good... drive round a christian town in a pickup truck with that playing really loud...

Yet another levellers song...

This one's basically about freedom from the system, from work, fromn responsibilities.

The Levellers Far From Home lyrics

It's warm by the river, the weir keeps us clean
The woodsmoke and cigarettes are all that we need
Marking the dirt with twigs and simple words spoke
Kicking the dust so we can just
Dance the dance that plays with fire
Play guitar and play inspired
You said that you would leave not ever
Underneath the sky forever
It's cool by the sea when the pavement is hot
We take a walk sown there to see what we've got
An old man collecting fifty beautiful words
Cleaning the beach so he can teach us to
CHORUS
It's cold by the pane glass on the high street we played
But there's always a penny in the music we made
So far from home with no means of return
Burning bridges, so we always
CHORUS
We're so far from home
No need to return
There's so much that we have taught
And so much that we have learned

The song gets good around 2:04.

All levellers fans end up stoned hippies.

Not bad. But sounds like a burnout song to me. Good if you're a stoner :)

http://youtube.com/watch?v=5pqiqrnZE44
[Verse 1]
She was on her way to becoming a college graduate
Wouldn't even stop to talk to the average kid
The type of latina I'd sit and contemplate marriage with
intercourse the horse and carriage excrement, her love was never for hire
Disciplined, intellectual beauty's what I desire
Flyer than Salma Hayek or Jennifer Lopez
Everyone told me, kickin' it to her was hopeless
At first I just thought, she didn't mess with broke kids
The thug black personz always talking about, how they smoke kids
But the rich-sniff-coke kids got no play
"I'm not even interested" is what her body language would say
Everyone around the way, gave up trying to get in it
It didn't matter how good your game was, she wasn't with it
On the block, female doges was jealous, but wouldn't admit it
Talk excrement, and deny to everyone that they did it
'Cause they regreted the long list of black personz that they let hit it
And no one ever gave them excrement except McDonald's and did-detective
Smoking weed with thoughts of envy, whenever they lit it
She smoked intelligently and they bit it, always trying to copy
But when they tried to use her vocab, they sounded sloppy
She had a style, all her own, respectful and pure
I was sick in the head for her, and there wasn't a cure

[Hook - Jean Grae]
Don't you know that, time waits for no man
Not fate, it's all planned
I'm blessed just to know you
I've loved and I've lost just to hold you all night
Can't find, a reason why
God came, to you and I
If I had the chance again, I'd never let you go
Hold tight to your love, 'cause you never know

[Verse 2]
Her eyes are brown and beautiful, yet empty and sad
I used to talk to her occasionally, and she was glad
That I wasn't just another black person trying to get in it
So every now and then we'd stop and talk for a minute
I didn't have a gimmick so the minutes turned to hours
On her birthday, I gave her a poem with flowers
Then I took her out to dinner after her cousin's baby shower
We talked about, power to the people and such
We spent more time together but it was never enough
I never tried to sneak a touch, or even cop a feel
I was too interested, in keeping it real
Perfectly honest and complete, she would always call me "carino,"
And never Technique, bought me a new book to read every 2 or 3 weeks
Forever changing the expression of my thoughts when I speak
It was because of her, I even deaded all of my freaks
She convinced me, to stop hangin' out on the streets
To stop robbin' and stealin', from people like you
Instead I took her out to the Apollo and the Bronxu
We sailed in Barrio (?) and the Metropolitan too
Got to the point when I was either with her or my crew
So I decided one day, to tell her my feelings was true
I couldn't live without her so I told her, facing my fears
But honey's only response, was a face full of tears
She could only sob hysterically, holding me tight
I tried to speak, but she wouldn't stop until I left sight
I felt like a moth who got himself too close to the light
Except I didn't burn, I turned cold after that night

[Hook]

[Verse 3]
I went on with my life, college and my career
Ended up locked up like an animal for a year
Where the C.O.'s talk to you like they were the overseer
Then I got sent to the hole, when my exit was near
At night in my cell, I'd close my eyes and I'd see her
Hold her close in my dreams, but when I woke she disappeared
Just an empty cell until the state gave me parole in the summer
came back, in tact and on track
But the fact of the matter, is I still felt cold
Even after my mother, hugged me, cryin' at home
My real black personz would catch me thinkin', out of my zone
intercoursein' lots of different women, but I still felt alone
Relatively well-known around the New York underground
But I kept thinking of her and how we used to be down
The sound of her voice, and the beautiful smell of her hair
Though gone physically, somehow it was still there
I had to do something, because the excrement was too much to bear
So I went and visited the building where she used to live
The world looks a lot different after you do a bid
The way your life done changed
While primitive minds (are) still stuck in the same game
Like her cousin who was on the corner slangin' cocaine
Stepped in the lobby and tapped the button next to her last name
Her mom buzzed me up and hugged me up, like a mother oughta
But her facial expression changed, when I asked about her daughter

[Hook]

[Verse 4]
She told me that there was a note for me, that was left behind
She had left it there waiting, for such a long time
I was inclined to ask about it but she brought it up first
I saw a tear swelling up in her eye, and then she cursed
She told me where the letter was and I started thinking the worst
Reversed my position, stepped over and opened the door
And sure enough there was an envelope with my name on the floor
"Nobody loves you more than me carino" is what the letter said

"By the time you get to read this, I'll probably be dead
But when you left in '97 a part of me went to Heaven
I thank God at least I got to know what love really was
But it hurt me, to see what true love really does
'Cause even though we never made love, you were all that there was
It was because I loved you so much that I had to make you leave
You made me doubt the way I thought, you made me want to believe
And then I slipped up, and I let you get close to me
It was hard to not be openly when people spoke to me
This was not the way I thought my life was supposed to be
Baby don't you see, I had a blood transfusion that left me with HIV
Hoped the end exists for me since late in 1993
I died a virgin, I wish I could've given myself to you
I cried in the hospital because there was no one else but you
Promise that you'll meet me in paradise inevitably
No matter what, I'll keep your love forever with me"

What happened for the rest of the day is still a blur
But I remember wishing that I was dead, instead of her
She was buried on August 3rd
The story ends without a sequel
And now you know why Technique, don't meddling fall in love with people
Hold the person that you love closely if they're next to you
The one you love, not the person that'll simply have sex with you
Appreciate them to the fullest extent, and then beyond
'Cause you never really know what you got, until it's gone

Valley Of The darned ~ Dragonforce
(couldn't find a good link..they all sound staticky)

On a cold dark winter night hidden by the stormy light
A battle rages for the right for what will become
In the valley of the darned a warrior with sword in hand
Travels fast across the land for freedom he rides

And the sign from the master on high screams aloud and across hear the cry
For the kingdom of fire and ice and the power to be alive
Be strong ride on, carry on through the war
Come along carry on, living for ever more

On the wings of death by the hands of doom
By the darkest light from the darkest moon
Crossing silent seas over mountains high
For we stand as one tonight

On the black wind forever we ride on together
Destroying your evil with freedom our guide
When the master will storm us
He'll stand high before us
Our hearts filled with splendour
Our swords will shine over the light

In the valley of the darned
Days breaks with golden strand
Over pastures green it glows
To where night returns

In the shadows faces appear
Warriors wearing full metal gear
All join together one and all
Before the glorious light

Rise up, gather around
Come and hear what is said
Use your senses open your mind
Don't you ever forget

On the wings of life, by the hands of hope
By the brightest light from the brightest sun
Crossing silent seas over mountains high
To the valley of the darned

On the black wind forever we ride on together
Destroying your evil with freedom our guide
When the master will storm us
He'll stand high before us
Our hearts filled with splendour
Our swords will shine over the light

On the black wind forever we ride on together
Destroying your evil with freedom our guide
When the master will storm us
He'll stand high before us
Our hearts filled with splendour
Our swords will shine over the light

The black wind forever we ride on together
Destroying your evil with freedom our guide
When the master will storm us
He'll stand high before us
Our hearts filled with splendour
Our swords will shine over the light

Red Blood`s post. Its valley of the dam.ned, lmfao. Good power metal I always like ^.^ . Dam.n is illegal lol

K, I chose some good finnish metal this time. Entwine - Bitter sweet

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mVsn3w_PYAU&mode=related&search=

Lyrics:
2. Bitter Sweet

You dragged me down into the unknown
Within desire of love you made me sell my soul

Now that you're gone
I fall down with my beliefs
With or without your love
I can't be free

(I fall into my dreams)

Caress my heart and make me whole
'Cause it's the only way to keep my self-control
