Graphics card?
« on: July 22, 2007, 09:50:00 PM »
ok i am not that smart about computers as id like to be so...... i need some help picking a nice video card that will give me more than the 150-190fps i am getting now. right now i have a 7300gt geforce vid card. i went looking around for one the other day and found a couple i wanted to check out, so here is a list. 8600gt, 8600gts, 8600gt overclocked, 8600gts overclocked, and an 8800gt. now which one would give me the best fps?

8800gt would probably be the best. However I am surprised that you don't get a better FPS with the card you have now. ???

I have a program that might help get that FPS up. You may want to try it before you go buy a new card.

* KiLo goes to start his uploads.

Edit: LINK
^^Jig originally posted this program a few months back.

Of those, the 8800 will probably be your best bet, but also probably be the most expensive.

8800 gts 320MB, is what i have. Will handle anything i play on it with settings all the way up. Its a little expensive, but if you have the money go for it. Ebay ftw. i get an average 200 fps on cs:s and 800-1000 on dp.

Which one you plug your monitor cable in is the one that will be used. However I did have a friend that when he had both he plugged it into the on-board one and Windows would not even start.

If you are going to buy a new card buy a NVIDIA. If you buy an ATI you will come on here asking us about OpenGL. So don't buy an ATI.

Erm, have you tried using fps commands?
I have some that will instantly jump my fps a few hundred... it's worth a shot, yes?

Corporal Perez, you need to learn to not leech off of other threads.  If it's a legitimate question, start a new thread.

Sure, it works.  Some people prefer 10 times that.  I wouldn't call it "good" but it's all up to you.

I keep my FPS at around 200, with cl_sleep set to 1. The difference between 200 and 800 or whatever is literally unnoticeable, and paintball doesn't kill my CPU! :D Or, one of it's cores.

Its all about future. If you want in future, install windows vista and play games with the newest directx10 you should buy the Nvidia 8800gts...its a good one. See first your Power Unit, cause this video cards need more power. Tell me the watts...

A minimum 400W system power supply (with 12V current rating of 26A)
Same as my 7900. :P

yes you are right, you need at least a "Minimum of 400W PSU with minimum of 26A on the +12V rail". CoLA if you power supply its not good and try to choose a good one not OEM. Try seasonic (expensive but the best), bequiet, enermax(i have one, 5stars) or a lc power(cheep and good) about 700w
