background noise?
« on: August 05, 2007, 10:57:28 PM »
Does anyone else have this issue? Either when I wear headphones or turn the sound up high, there is this hissing noise in my speakers, that changes pitch depending on what i click on. I'm not talking about average low hiss, there are little whines and beeps too, not caused by anything. It's very annoying, could it be something with my sound card?

You mean like, all the time right?  If so, mine does that too, I'd love to know how to fix it.  It's varying too, if I click and drag in Photoshop it changes from say, just idling.

Yes, all the time. If I scroll on a page, it makes a little buzz, and if I move the mouse, same thing. I either have to have it up really loud or be wearing headphones to hear it though.

Heh, same with me. It only happens when I maximize/minimize/restore/whatever a window, though.

Go in to your sound mixer controls and mute everything you dont use and see if that makes a difference.

My computer make high pitched screeching noises, usually meaning the PC will crash in around 6 seconds.

Hmm, I even tried muting everything, still happens. I think my sound card may be getting interference.

I get that too. And i have a felling it is triggered by the video card (happens when I scroll, for instance), and also hard drive activity. Not sure why, but thats what I've noticed.

I'm pretty sure it has to do with other internal pc components causing interference.

I had that happen on one of my old computers.  I'm pretty sure it was exactly what you thought -- interference with other components.  I'm not sure if a better sound card would fix that or if it's a motherboard issue.  What soundcard do you have?

What soundcard do you have?

Realtek AC97 Audio.

I actually unplugged the speaker cable, plugged it back in and now it's a lot quieter.

Isn't that usually onboard sound?  Maybe try putting a real sound card in there.

Me too! :D

I don't really see why sound cards are needed for average day-to-day use, or games. Onboard works fine. >_>

Eiii, i had the same mentality until tinman broke my onboard. so... edit* onboards work fine until tinman touches them.
