Build 014 Feedback
« on: April 11, 2005, 02:09:23 AM »
A new build, a new thread.  Build 14 comes with an installer.  Try it out here: http://dpball.com/files/clients/paintball2_build14_full_pretest1.exe

If all goes well, this will just be the build 14 full release, but it may be subject to change.  I haven't gotten an update install done yet.

To test the paintball2 url functionality, click here: paintball2://209.123.8.57:27980

Edit: Final links:

Full install: http://dpball.com/files/clients/paintball2_build014_full.exe (16M)
Patch install: http://dpball.com/files/clients/paintball2_build014_update.exe (1.1M)
Linux full install: http://dpball.com/files/clients/paintball2_build014_linux_full.tar.gz (20M)

^_^

You'd better show me where that sound place on Siegecastle is, jits, or I'll release that VID THAT SHOWS WHAT YOU DO ON PAINTBALL LATE AT NIGHT!
Ooh.

BTW: Add "jits" and "vid" to the spell check.

I made a little goof up.  The fullscreen mode does not work properly in the pretest1 release.  You can fix that by extracting the executables from this zip over your build 14 install: http://dpball.com/files/clients/paintball2_build14_pretest1_fullscreenfix.zip

eiii: "jits" and "vid" aren't words, though... and you were doing it, too!

There was a problem with the refresh rate selection widget that made it crash.  Just a minor thing.

If you have 13, just install the update.

some quick feedback for the Linux build:

-Fullscreen doesn't seem to work when resolution is set to the desktop resolution. Using resolutions below works fine.
-Trying to type a name in player setup crashes the client (signal 11)
-setting sound to 3d sound displays 'dlopen("q2a3d.so") failed - file not found' (or something similar), but since this is experimental it's probably just not done yet
-i can't bind all of my mouse buttons - buttons 1,2, 3 and wheelup/wheeldown work, but buttons 5 and 6 are not recognized

That's all for now.
If you need further information I'll provide it for you.
Thanks for the Linux build!

Thanks for the feedback.  I'll see what I can do.  The 3D sound hasn't been ported to Linux yet.  I didn't think to remove it from the menu.  When that gets done, I'm hoping it'll work better than the regular sound (which cuts out a lot for me, for some reason, but that seems to be for all games).  I'm not really sure how to get more than 3 mouse buttons to work in xwindows -- haven't done much coding in that environment -- but there's probably a way.  I should be able to fix the player name crashing in the menu, but in the meantime, just type "name <yourname>" at the console.  Does this happen with any edit box?

Strangely the edit box crash didn't happen today.
Maybe it was a problem on my side...
I'll investigate this further and let you know if I find something out.

Explain?  You mean you can't change any settings?

he might want to say that some settings cant be changed while ingame (are these the settings that are inscribed in the server.cfg or are they protected someway else?)

I made the changes to the setting:  resolution, controls, etc.  I tried to save it as ShotMyself.cfg ingame,  it seemed like it saved, but when i got to load it, it doesnt appear.

Ok i see what happens now after little testing, the configs start appearing after you restart the game.  If you dont include the .cfg while saving it saves it to "yourfilename" no extension.

So it works as long as you have the .cfg put on your config filename?

Oy, that should be in both the readme and the documentation on this page: http://www.planetquake.com/digitalpaint/docs/faq.html#bots
