Yes Flame that kind of thing we are talking about. Press a button and you slide like that whilst in motion.

Eh, the game already does this.  You don't instantly lose your momentum when you crouch.  I could make the momentum decrease slower, but a lot of people use crouch as a means to slow down, like when you're trying to land on a small ledge.  With sliding, you'd slide right off your target.  I'm not sure what this really gives you, anyway, besides maybe a mild "neato" effect.  It seems like it would just make the game movement harder to control.

harder to control thus making the game more exciting and challenging to master. :P

Yeah lets add something that will change how DP has been played for the past decade.  Great idea.

Let's just make every surface ice. It'd be easer and faster than implementing this 'crouch sliding' and probably have about the same effect.

FYI this game has been changed over the years but i am sure you should know that. all this is just an idea on something new that might help bring more fun to the game.

I don't really see a problem with this... as long as you can't start crouching in mid air to exploit old map's windows.

This isn't going to allow you to jump-crouch through windows (like in half life).  It's not the same thing as the crouch momentum that is already on slopes.  When you press crouch just before landing you maintain full horizontal speed and you can get some additional speed coming out of it.  Watch the video I linked to on the first page of this thread or download the Q4 1.4.2 Multiplayer Demo to see what it's all about.

jitspoe: Are you sure I can modify the PM_ physics and compile the client/server binary without needing to recompile the game binary?  Every time I've tried it just crashes me as soon as I enter my test server (which is running the same binaries in a different folder).

I'm not sure why it crashes.  It should be all in the engine code.  I think the only thing the game code does with crouching is change the view offset.

Why change the physics of the game people?  There is so much other stuff that could be added/changed, the physics are fine as they are.

Croutch Sliding for cover
« Reply #33 on: August 13, 2008, 07:40:03 AM »
Do you guys think we should have a croutch slide move?  I have seen it in many games and it proved very useful from getting cover to cover.

Ex. If you press shift and "up" you will slide forward

I personally think it might be good.
Anyone else have any ideas on the subject?

Edited: Rolling is know not part of this thread

If you included being able to shoot 2 paintball guns at the same time while rolling for cover, then I'd be for it....

No, the game is too fast paces for rolls and slides.

I just thought it would be good to make it harder for people to line you in maps like shock.

And in "real" paintball, which I know DP is not, sliding is a key part of grabbing cover and moving forward.
