Giant Texture followed by FREEZING!!
« on: September 03, 2007, 06:13:19 PM »
Im making a map with BSP that almost reaches each of the boundaries but stays a distance away, and every time I try to play it, when it starts to load Map:Coolness *couldnt think of any other name*, It just displays a texture on the screen and nothing else, then it freezes and i have to end task it. Whats wrong with the stupid thing?

I'm guessing you tried to make a cube map and didnt make all 6 faces, and it creates a HUGE leak.
When you move the camera around, does it look like the image gets stuck?

The map doesnt even load, it shows just a texture, nothing else, no ammo count or anything!

I'm pretty sure there's some overload that can do this. Could you send the BSP file?

Yeah, that's way too big. QBSP just craps out. Quake2 was not designed for huge areas, lower the sky. :P

Holy friggin crap! That is massive! that needs to be much smaller. Use y00tz's "Useful Mapping Tool" to get the scale right.

Beware of open maps, the Quake II engine isn't optimised for open spaces - more for corridor and room type maps. You're in for a world of hurt if the room is too large and open, in terms of r_speeds and fps.
