Should Clans be able to customize there own uniform?
« on: September 04, 2007, 06:29:02 PM »
Like where they can chose up to like 3 different colors for the uniform. This would only be able to work in clan matches . But if you create a logo it can be posted on the front or back or the player to tell what clan they are in. Or a logo above there heads.

i dont mind but it will get tedious to download all the different clan's skins just to see them - kinda waste space (on my comp at least)

it's a nice idea but i vote no.

Actually back in the good ol days, we used the q2 player models: marine and lolita ( old schoolers corerct me on that one) and several clans made jerseys and it was pretty slick.

Blizz had their own model and skin, with some coloured camo.

I'm sure it wouldn't take that long to download.

The whole skin of the current player model for one color is just under 1/3 of a MB.

haha this sparked a few memories so me and Reed dug up our old DP builds from yesteryear and grabbed a few screenies of the models you are talkin about.

A reminder of the good old days, methinks!

For all these it was about 4.33mb for the whole 'players' folder, so in light of the faster downloading I reckon it would actually be amenable to have this. Having said that,  it probably has implications with hack model detection, etc...

Plus what happens if someone puts I'll just leave it at inappropriate things on their jerseys?

That's where the community comes in.

I'm sure there would be an inssue about visability and such, It's more complicated that it would at first seem.

I voted yes.

in order for transparency to work ingame, the image would have to be loaded as GL_RGBA or GL_BGRA respectively, and then would have to be rendered while GL_ALPHA_TEST or similar is enabled... it's very easy to make transparent models nothing to worry about. just because an image has transparency doesn't mean dp has to alpha test it

even if its just a customizable tag for the jerseys that'd be sweet.

i voted no, because the color choices could give an advantage, then when you take away certain colors, everyones jersey would look the same.

Spook having like two little letters "aB" on the back of a jersey in lime green couldn't possibly enhance visibility that much.

And how many match maps are played where people camp in complete darkness so they could only be seen if there was say a lime green line on their chest?  Maybe a few.  But.  They should probably not even be seen anyway.

It's not like the jerseys give off light or anything.

if you customize your own jersey and you put lime green letters then your only hurting yourself. making yourself more visible is a disadvantage to you. eventually however teams might all begin to make there uniforms the most camoflaged as they can, and sooner every one may begin to look the same

I'm sure this has already been proposed, but how about just standard jerseys with a blank-ish spot that you can (optionally) put a transparent TGA or PNG over?

I was thinking along the same lines Eiii, maybe a default, relatively small graphic that even if it were neon, wouldn't be large enough to impose a significant advantage...  The default could be replaced or edited as you pleased, and could just overlay a white spot in the players jersey.

I imagine it would have to work in such a way that jersey submissions had to be validated and approved by the Commitee, so once the design is finalised and approved for being fit for the game and doesn't give any unfair advantages or disadvantages then the checksum or whatever is used for hack skin detection can be added to the database so only approved skins can be used. You could probably associate it with the global login too so you could only use a clans skin if you're registered a member.

or something.
