Unofficial Feature Vote of 2007
« on: September 19, 2007, 02:14:38 PM »
This is a list of things that could be completed by members, i.e. stuff that isn't code/build related. For example, something that the community could benefit from, yet there would be no reason to require Jitspoe/a developer to do.

Examples of this would be:

- a re-organized/designed menu system (Zorchenhimer has done this)
- an online server browser (sk89q has done this).

I guess if you see something on the list that you could do, do it and post it here so we can  take it off the list.

A decent KOTH map to showcase the gamemode and make it more popular

And a button that forces y00tz onto an IM program

Seconded.

@ Everyone:  By the way, feel free to update tallies etc.  But I'd like to see it done only once or so per page or 20 posts.

Definitely need more KOTH maps. The only one I can think of off the top of my head besides KOTH is Routez.

Here's something I've been working on for a while, but due to time, I'd like to throw it out for anyone else to work on.  I've been writing a map-editing program in C++/OpenGL and was considering a port to Java (for every OS that supports Java)

I'd love to see a cross-platform map-editing program SPECIFICALLY DESIGNED FOR PAINTBALL 2.

If done correctly, an advantage to this is that if we ever switched map formats, we'd have an editor that merely required minor tweaking.

I'd also like to see a compatibility-mode that allowed for merely 2D editing for slower computers...

Anyway, there's a lot more planning that has gone into this, and if anyone would like documentation on the BSP format, be sure to PM me.

I really don't see what's wrong with BSP. I don't get how you could customize it any more for DP, that is, except making entity placement more user-friendly. And by user-friendly, I mean idiot-friendly.

Agreed, BSP is great already, and if you really really want a BSP specifically designed for DP then you can just take the current BSP source and add your own changes.

I agree with Eiii and Cobo. There's no need to re-invent the wheel, and I myself sure would not want to use any mapping program made in Java.

Except it is. Well, the source is avaiable. Just because something isnt GPL'd doesnt mean that the program is not worth using.

Really? Sweet. Link?

None.  You have to put up with the current source-holder saying "Umm, it's not clean enough"

He usually hangs out in #level_design or whatever with LordHavoc and what not.  Best of luck, if ya get it, pass it along.

He'll say it's not clean enough, but I bet you could suck it out of him pretty easily. Also, he doesn't really like you, y00tz. I think other people would have more success. ;)

Cusoman suggested an updater for DP, one of you want to develop a quick and dirty updater?

I could just add on to DPGet easily but what's the point? When you start an out of date build a message usually pops up. What's so hard to do?
