Uh oh, a new map.
« on: September 23, 2007, 05:19:42 PM »
I was bored for a few hours and thought I'd test out this new version of BSP.

Everything done in this map was done by me. All free hand, no outside programs.

Actually here, I'll give you just a non-vis non-rad compile.

Its awful bright, either turn on your gamma or use a slightly darker textures.  Over all the concept is beautiful.  Nice work man

There's a final compile.

I've already got some changes I need to make so don't list them.

You might want to change the file name to pfields_b1.

Map is done, somewhat.

Map is almost done. You can thank XtremeBain for being  a picky jerk. Probably some changes to be made.

Here's the idea though.

nice work, I really like it.

the textures on the wooden roof at the back of the bases are misaligned, and how come the bridges near the mid are a bit wonky?

Otherwise, this is totally spot on, I hope to see it on servers soon.

I'm un-impressed that you really like it.  I've already told BoB when we were play testing it that I think he can do much much better with this idea.  Seeing everyone else's feedback here and on IRC, I'm starting to think that maybe it's just me.

Edit: typo

well I like it for a few reasons, not that I think its perfect, but just that it occupies a segment of the mapping market that hasn't really been exploited much, in my opinion; It's open with a nice flow, while not having entirely discreet paths, it has highs and lows running through between bases, It's well made and I really like the uneven terrain as its different and surprisingly not awkward to play which can be a real challenge when making unconventional terrain i think. It has a sense of openness and clear fields of fire, but doesn't suffer from crippling r_speeds and diluted gameplay (from what I've seen) that can be really difficult to get a handle on when making open-plan maps.

What additions/omissions would you make to improve it, Xbain?

Well, first I need to pick up and play the full compile, because I've only seen the fast-vis (or non-rad whatever) builds that he was posting on IRC.  I'm sure the lighting will look much better on the finished product.  Layout and gameplay wise I think that the map is really well done, but I believe it needs a major re-texturing.  The barrels, crates, wooden towers and silly bridge make the map seem really dated.  After seeing those couple things I was surprised he didn't throw any lollipop trees in there.  I think that barrels and crates have been way over used in this game and I would like to see mappers get a little more creative with their bunkers and obstacles.  The bunkers that were placed in the base here look bad, but the flag area itself is a good idea but could use some detail to spruce it up, much like the high towers.  He's showing that he has some mapping skills and his terrain is really well made, but I'm really wanting him to push the envelope with this release.

I think also, I'm just being overly critical because it's BoB, and he still owes me for recruiting his sorry ass into eR33t off a random public server years ago.

It's been 4 years since the last time you made me shed a tear until this time. YOURE A JERK.

The actual point of this map was to show that there's something different than just flat maps and that one way maps could actually be decent if done right. I have several maps finished that were never released because there is something already like it out there, although mine are probably better. I released this one because it was unique and you don't see anything like this when you play, except when Fourthx releases his new excrement to show me. Can someone say jealous?

Give me a list of what you think needs changed Jesse, and I'll see what I can do.

That's the selling point of the map. IF I DO NOT HAVE A SEX ROOM, I DO NOT HAVE A MAP.

You should submit the finished version to DPR's map database:
