This is actually sick, great to see you expanding on the crap I tried to start. The nested code tags are nasty though.

Paintball 2 Discussion / Re: Promote map remakes | Overwrite maps

Yeah, I didn't think I'd have to explain that I was referring to remaking popular maps. I thought it was clear enough, because nobody was talking about the 2000+ unplayed maps. Thank you for clarifying though, that is exactly what I meant.

Some poor unfinished maps (broken_dojo, rome2 etc.) started being named, so being specific will stop any confusion that may happen. Not trying to be mean or troll :)

For some reason, my edits are not working - so double post :)
Remakes are fine as long as they are visual only. They should NOT impact the gameplay of a map AT ALL, because the gameplay is the MAIN REASON a map gets played.

Yeah, DirtyTaco's pbcup_renoir/pbcup_pforest/others are remakes that changed gameplay - I assume you don't play those because of the impact on original gameplay? /s I think what you mean is...
Remakes are fine, there is 2000+ unplayed maps that could have a remake and be popular maps, but when it comes to the current (and former) popular maps like wobluda, no gameplay altering updates should occur. Gameplay is the REASON popular maps gets played.

AND for the case that mappers give long names to those maps (like rome2_160912, sorry rick but why? >:( ) this should be seen as the mappers fault.
I posted it in the 'Beta / In-Progress Maps' to get feedback... Not my fault someone has put it up on a server, it wasn't even an alpha at that point. The trailing portion is the date - 16/09/2012 (09/16/2012 for the weird people).

From the screenshots it looks like you should have a bit of a play with the sky settings, it looks very uniformly lit and adding a slight angle to the sunlight may make the map look a bit better (it looks very uniformly lit).

Here are some settings that are within the help section of bsp, although I think it's suggested not to use the diffuse setting? Not sure.

Code: [Select]
When using ArghRad (http://www.planetquake.com/arghrad/)
you can use a sun to light maps with sky.
These settings work well with the riverscape1 sky:
"_sun_angle" "200 -30"
"_sun_diffuse" "60"
"_sun_ambient" "30"
"_sun_light" "250"

This was only to give TiNi some inspiration, I sent him the map file privately... so I still don’t count this as a completed map by me ;)

Beta / In-Progress Maps / Re: Visual Update: Blitz
« on: July 01, 2020, 03:16:29 AM »
I don't think my changes are significant enough to warrant a different map.  I just wanted to replace blitz.bsp with something that looked better.

I do agree your version is still very much the map blitz but at the same time it's not, it's more of a remake (which is not a bad thing, don't get me wrong). Map naming is such a grey area... When are changes considered enough to warrant a new map name, or the map to replace the original? Is this like pbcup and sdcup? Or is it like wobluda, wobluda_fix, wobluda_jits, wobluda_whoa? Or is this the new blitz.bsp? This would be a great discussion to have in another topic.

I don't recall making the windows a different size.  Pretty sure I also just decompiled the map to ensure dimensions were the same.  That may be a side effect of making the inside of the bunker open.  I can close them up and see how it plays.
Yeah, Myers was showing Primo and I last night around the different blitz versions to get our opinions - definitely could still hit the player when crouched behind the bunker.

Both maps are definitely an improvement over the original, I do hate your boxes though Myers. Apart from that, your version seems to still be the good old blitz game play, and is probably a good candidate to simply replace the original blitz, whereas jitspoe's seems to introduce some new tactics and would probably be better suited to be a new map (paintfield is a good name!).

I heard there was high r_speeds, so I had to add more. I am the king of r_speeds.

On a serious note, good attempt at your first map!

I use the good ol' BSP, I don't see the need to use other editors.

No idea what jumps etc. that I removed, should be easy enough to add back in :)

Yeah, didn't know what to do with MID, I like an open mid but obviously VIS does not - just an idea of how you could block views.

Don't you dare decompile!@@!@! Just kidding, I decompiled your map - any who here is the .map file. If you use anything from it, make sure you utilise the detail flag, as I did not.

I had a mess around with the map about a month ago, kind of forgot to post anything. I liked the layout, but didn't love the visuals, so I messed around with it.

Keep in mind that I did not optimise the map with hints/details/etc., so probably has bad r_speeds.

P.S I thought I would post this in-case it helps you continue mapping. Have fun.

Clans, Matches, and Tournaments / Re: NPBLeague Sign-ups
« on: April 23, 2019, 05:21:44 PM »
Maybe just make this a 1v1 tourney or something, you've got 7 people signed up and 2 "free-agents", may as well get everyone involved. You could get a few keen mappers to create a couple of 1v1 maps fairly quickly, or even do a mapping competition and play the tourney solely on the maps created.
