Am I the only one that uses the arrow keys for moving?
Just wondering.
My config that I normally use is:
Move all directions- Arrow Keys
Reload air- =
Drop gun- backspace
Jump- \
Crouch- ]
Throw Grenade- Shift
Hand 1-3- on my mouse buttons
Drop barrel- mouse wheel down
I'm trying to get used to using a "normal" config.
It's proving to be quite hard :)

I used to use arrow keys back when i first picked up this game, since Q2 was the first FPS i played with keyboard/mouse and I was used to just pressing the arrow keys in Doom/Wolf3d etc. Tried WSAD after one of my RL friends who played the game at the time as well showed me his setup and liked it a lot better. You don't have to stretch your fingers out nearly as far and there are more keys accessible for games where you need a lot of binds.

Because its impossible for me to strafe with the config I have now. That's why Im so darn slow.

Mouse1-fire
mouse2-jump
Mwheeldown- dropgun
Mwheelup- reloadco2
That's about it. Skater, how the hell do you jump while moving?

check out all the noobeh configs...
WASD for life... you couldn't benefit from a ESDF in this game...
tip: set your right mouse button to an impact gren bind... it's very, very nice ;)

yeah i use weird controls too, i like to call it the Y2J set...it goes a little something like this:
mouse2 = forward
mouse1 = shoot
alt = backpedal
space = jump
c = crouch
x = step left
v = step right
mwheelup = tossgren
mouse3 = dropgren
mwheeldown = dropgun

Mouse 2 or space=jump (its easier for me to jump and shoot at the same time using the space)

Mousewheel down=drop gun

That's a horrible cfg. You have to like stretch out your pinky to reach half the keys.

My index finger hits forward or reverse.
The next two fingers control strafing (ring finger for left, middle finger for right).
Thumb for crouch.
Pinkie doesn't do much...well..."L" == "Go Go Go" so if you see me say that alot i'm just exersising my pinkie.
Now to drop anything I simply reach a finger up.
To toss a gren a reach a finger down.
To purge co2 I quickly smack the spacebar with my pinkie.
I do have to shift my entire keyboard over to the left to get the set of keys over to the left far enough to be comfortable.
Been playing those keys since 1995 Descent days.
OH forgot to say...
I have used the kind of keyboards that have the enlarged <ENTER> key (the one that extends up to the next row) since back then also. This makes hitting enter (moving forward) hard to miss. Without looking everything else pivots off of the enter key.

I haven't used these the whole time i've been playing. The only change is tossgren. It use to be mwheel down.

really easy script for me, but that's probably because i've used this since quake 1. only time it gets weird is when i'm trying to back up while crouched and strafing right... i have to use my thumb to press alt, but other than that one scenario that's the only time i use my thumb for anything other than tossing grenades and i don't even think about it anymore. of course i'm sure no one has to 'think' about their script if they've been using it for awhile... personally, i can't even move with WASD

Use "cl_maxfps 0" to remove the limitation.
The default FPS limitation is 60-80, I believe.

My old logitech mouse had 5 buttons. Two crescent shaped ones on the sides, the 2 main buttons, and a small one directly above (or below, I can't remember which) the scroll wheel. Not terribly uncommon to have more than 2 buttons on new mice, Jits ;)

i got 8 buttons. 2 on side, left mouse, right mouse , random use button , sensitivity up , sensitivity down and mouse 3 =]

My mouse technically has 7 buttons, but it's ambidextrous, so 2 of them are pretty much unusable (unless you have 2 thumbs on your hand).

i have a bluetooth wireless ut i recently found out i can only use up to mouse 5 it doesnt recognze the others. but i have 2 buttons on the left left and right cliks the scroll click, and also my scroll clicks left and right

I know that some Quake 3 players (SiC) use ESDF to move instead of WASD, they do this so that they have more keys closely available to be bound on the left side of their hand, and also so that they can easily find their hand's position, as the index finger is already on the bump of the "F" key. It also makes it easier for typing, thus better communication/recon.
