Title: IRC, dying or no?
Post by: mewa on October 29, 2008, 12:22:48 PM: Seems to me theres been a dramatic decline in IRC usage in the past years, especially months.

Could be because the graphics aren't so hot and newer chat clients have emoticons instead of ASCII figurines.

Could be because of this twat community who !kb's all the other twats.

Joke or not, activity has certainly dropped off recently. There are about the same number of idlers, but not much chat. I think a lot of the activity has just relocated to the forums. It also doesn't help that virus scanners and firewalls have a bad habit of blocking IRC ports by default.
