Title: Server help
Post by: akonnyoungjesus on January 10, 2006, 08:11:50 PM
Yes I need help getting my server up, I have followed the tutorial and I can open the command box and go into digitalpaintball but my server doesn't show up... I do not have a firewall as I have deleted it for specific reasons, at the end of the tutorial it says make sure you have a Quake2 port (if you have a router) to 2910 or whatever the port was, so I thought that might be the problem so I googled some information and I went through another tutorial on how to change my router ports, so I did that and added the Quake21 port (as well as 22 because the guide said Quake needed it) So after that I thought for sure it would show up but to my surprise it did not, if anyone has had this problem or know how to fix it please help me.

Is the public cvar set to 1?  In the server window, it should say something along the lines of:

Sending heartbeat to...
Success.

Ok, your ip shows up on http://dpball.com/serverlist.php -- at least, it's the same IP that shows up on the forums.  It should be on the list unless there's a router and/or firewall blocking connections.

The machine you're running the server on is 192.168.2.1?

i was gonna say check that, the other ports u have open are at  192.168.2.4

you need to make sure the ports are open on your firewall too

edit: just read about no firewall

I switched them from .1 to .4 and it still doesn't work, what else should I try?

Do you know for certain that's actually the IP of the machine you're running the server on?  If you've got a DHCP server, the IP's can change.  If you're able to, referring to the machine by its name is usually more stable.

if you're on a network, find out the address of the machine you are running the server on.

start menu > Run > type "cmd" > press enter > in box type "ipconfig"

then see what it says is your ip address...should be 192.168.2."something"

whatever that "something" is use that number for the port unblocking

you usually see your own server as blacked out on htelsit, doesn't mean everyone else does too.

how do i find ips to ban people

also how do i password a server

there are two posts on this board, one called 'wall of shame - ips to ban' and the other 'ip to ban 2' i think

to ban an ip first login,

then in the console type

'addip <ip> <ip>' then hit enter
then type 'writeip'

this will create a file called listip.cfg in the pball folder, move this to the configs folder and in the server.cfg file type 'exec pball/configs/listip.cfg' i might be wrong

to password protect a server login then type in the console

'cvar_set password <password goes here>'

to remove a password type in the console

'cvar_set password unset'

hope that helps

Nice try.  It looked genuine if it weren't for your IP being the same on all of those posts:
IP address|Poster|Subject|Date
XX.XX.XXX.XXX|NoName |IPs To Ban 2 |Today at 03:24:40 PM
XX.XX.XXX.XXX|--CakeBringa-- |Re: IPs To Ban 2 |Today at 03:27:22 PM
XX.XX.XXX.XXX|M3YGG (PbDc) |Re: Server help |Today at 03:35:52 PM

I took the liberty of deleting your new thread, since it was obviously faked.  Please don't do that again or the next "IP's to ban" list might have your ip on it.

guntemp_inc 0 and guntemp_dec 100 effectively do the same thing.  One prevents the bar from increasing, and the other makes it fully decrease instantly.  The second will cause some motion on the bar, though, which may be undesireable.

As for banning... unless you have a problem with somebody on your server right now, you might want to wait for the next release since the commands are screwed up right now.

guntemp_inc 0 turns off gun temp.
ffire 0 turns off friendly fire.
How many times have you asked that question?

No ffire, No guntemp, flagmustbeatbase 0, flagcapendsround 0.

That should be ok(public).
