I was just wondering.
-What is it in your country?
-Do you follow the law for it?
-Do you think it should be lowered/raised?
Just doing a poll for a school debate.
United States/ 21
Should be lowered.
-
Australia/18
-
Saskatchewan Canada -
19
No
Could be lowered to 18, and then first year University students will have an easier time. But it could be raised and then the clubs would be better. Either way its pretty easy to get booze by the time you're 15 in my city

Should be lowered.
You can vote and join the army at 18, yet you cannot drink.
Should be lowered.
-Do you follow the law for it?
Who does.
-
21 - should probably be lowered to 19, not 18 because most kids turn 18 during high school.
-
19 - Ontario Canada
perfect age
started drinking when i was 14.
fyi - 18 in Montreal, Canada
-
Germany, 16, its fine.
-
Germany, 16, its fine.
whoa. And what kazee said, should be around 19 because people are still in school when they are 18, im not though ;D
-
Switzerland,
16 Beer, 18 Hard Alc
Everyone starts to drink with 14 here..
-
Australia/18
Yep. Right through Australia it's the same.
Good age in my opinion... could be a year or two higher.
-
drink and drive in germany = ur life is over :D welcome to the excrementside :D
-
Portugal, 16. They are trying to change it to 18 now...Don't really understand why.
-
Why 16? Your not an adult yet...?
-
estonia 18.
Should be like in many other countries, though. I mean 16=easy alcohol from shops. 18=heavy alcohol from shops and bars.
-
Why 16? Your not an adult yet...?
Why do you need to be an adult?
-
Makes more sense. In Australia you get lots of extra rights when you turn 18 - voting, marrying age...

Why would it make more sense? How about we allow alcohol when you become 40, because then you can candidate to become estonian president!!!
-
Oh, and please don't come up with saying that "ohhh, 18 has been the tradititunal agee when u becum adolt".
It hasnt. Estonian boys become men when they plowed their first field.
-
still cant drink and drive with my 20 years have to wait till 21
-
nah i was going to say:
pfft... only one person becomes president
-
im pretty sure the legal age of drinking in canada is 19 (im from canada)
-
USofA is 21 and should stay as is. There's already enough dumb teenagers out there that get drunk and act like dipexcrements.
I think in Mexico it's 13 or 16? But, it's not like they care in most places.
Oh and I think there's already a thread on this. :]]]

US - 21. I can't stand alcohol, and I don't care for drunks, either, but prohibition has its own issues. I don't think it should be lowered - people in high school just starting to drive being allowed to drink sounds like a terrible combination.
-
UK
16 if your legal parent/guardian buys what you drink
18 is when you can buy it yourself.
12 if you find a crooked shopkeeper :P
Not that I have ever been drunk.

They do, but by then, they've had 3-4 years of experience. A lot better than, "Hey, I just got my drivers license! Hey, I can legally drink now! I'm going to go to a party!"
It would be nice if people were smart enough not to drink to begin with, so the laws would be unnecessary...
-
problem with this is the protesters against drunk driving even with it at 21 atm their more drunk driving accidents than anything else. If this was to get lowered you would see a lot of ppl against it just for the simple fact that it would most likely cause more accidents.
-

Very well said. 21/USA.
I don't care if they lower the drinking age here in the US. High school and college are littered with underage drinking. I myself am not a drinker. I would like to see marijuana legalized in the US before the drinking age gets lowered, but that's just me. :D

The irony here is theirs more Drunk driving accidents due to liquor being legal then bad events where weed was involved being illegal.
-
lol No matter what the law is people will do it when they want so why does it matter.....
-
cuz then their wouldn't be a middle class and high class or poverty it would be like in ancient times with jus empires taking empires fighting for ur life everyday and excrement.
-
Yeah, empires like the ancient Greek empire - like they had any laws whatsoever, pfft.
-
To people that drink: what would you compare the taste to? I find it strange that the taste alone doesn't act as a natural repellent. Personally, I don't plan on ever drinking, I'm just not interested in what it ultimately achieves. As for the age itself (21 in the US), it should probably be slightly higher because brain development continues into the mid-20's, but 21 is ok.
I don't drink beer. Can't stand the taste. I'm more for mixed drinks, liquor, or girlie drinks(they have more alcohol, fuss your face)

Nah! Its 18 years. thats one reason for(why the province of Quebec have the most accident with car?) thats make me angry !
-
3 provinces (Alberta, Manitoba, Quebec) in Canada have 18 as the legal age. The other 10 provinces/territories are 19.
-
Yeah there are so many people around who drink, then go and get someone killed whether they're in a car or they have a bottle in there hand.
And so many of them would be between 18 - 25. But the biggest problem is responsibility. Heaps of people probably don't care about getting drunk, and some think its cool to get drunk. It's only when a person gets seriously hurt or killed is when they realise what they've done...

AHH!! darn! I didn't knew the drinking age in my country!!!! rofl!
-
I think Alberta is going to raise it to 19 soon.
