Buy me this:

Or this which is much sexier:

You are merry that is all.

Edit: The craigslist post is a rip off. You can get something better for about the same price or a little more.

ECS is a crap mobo brand too.

Here are better (and cheaper) ones from Gigabyte (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128357) and Biostar (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813138154).

Ow at the geforce4. On the other hand it would probably respond faster in windows without the ridiculous UI theming. And props for using seamonkey.

Post by: webhead on March 15, 2011, 01:44:59 PM
Ow at the geforce4, ew at seamonkey, and the theme won't make any difference unless its some 3rd-party program.
:)

webhead: The gigabyte mobo, can you search for the Cpu that goes with it for me? =D

It tells you right there, it takes a socket 775. Leaves you open to a lot of dual and quad cores. I use a socket 775 Q9450 quad core and it has been outstanding for 3 years so far.

... assuming that the original mobo link capo posted is exactly what he needed, socket-wise. I just went by that.

<3 Seamonkey. and the theme i got from a friend. but eh. it looks cool. =). my buddy's giving me a his old dimension 8400. so i'll show how that goes performace wise and see what he upgraded on it.

You can get a decent video card for about 50 bucks just in case that one doesn't work out. A lot of the nvidia 9 series cards are cheap now.

Post by: webhead on March 16, 2011, 11:18:06 AM
capo, if all you need is a new mobo, do you not want to use the CPU that you already have? I mean, if not, then your mobo choices are wide open.

^ Except to consider the RAM too ;)

I should have known someone would point that out. :P I thought about putting it but then thought it was obvious or not as important, I guess -- cuz if he uses his existing CPU, he might also just use his existing RAM.
Title: Re: Wish list.
Post by: MOFO on March 17, 2011, 12:46:47 AM
does the the type of ram depend on the cpu. cuz i'm really not sure if its that or the motherboard in general
Title: Re: Wish list.
Post by: webhead on March 17, 2011, 12:53:28 AM
It's kinda both, I think, but mainly the CPU. I kinda need to brush up on that as I'm not 100% sure, but you could probably find out from Wikipedia or Google in general.

wikipedia is crap. half of there information is false.

Post by: webhead on March 17, 2011, 03:43:50 AM
That is a thoroughly unscientific claim you make there, so Wikipedia is still more accurate than you. ;D
In fact, I believe there was a study done in which Wikipedia's accuracy was compared to that of the Encyclopedia Brittanica, and the two were found to be pretty close iirc (don't remember the numbers but you can google it for yourself).

Really tho, that's why you check the sources given for the information. If a piece of info isn't properly sourced, then it still might be true, but you just take it with a grain of salt, as the saying goes.

Full disclosure: I was an active editor on Wikipedia at one time, so I know a lot about how the process works there. It's a very good process but there is so much info that needs to be maintained that help is ALWAYS appreciated.

webhead, maybe you could help me find what I need.

I picked the gigabyte mobo you provided. But than I was looking at other things for it and found this:

Cpu:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819116093

Ram: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820134927

Need help on finding a video card, prefer nvidia, and not too high priced, preferably around 80 or somewhat close to it. And also need help seeing if i need any extra fans or, a cheap case. OR whatever. lol.

Video card comparisons:

one (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Productcompare.aspx?Submit=Property&N=100007709&IsNodeId=1&maxPrice=100&PropertyCodeValue=679%3A39752%2C679%3A50263%2C679%3A100586%2C686%3A49755%2C686%3A25271%2C686%3A42010&bop=And&CompareItemList=48|14-130-531^14-130-531-TS%2C14-500-146^14-500-146-TS%2C14-150-513^14-150-513-TS%2C14-150-475^14-150-475-TS%2C14-133-321^14-133-321-TS), two (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Productcompare.aspx?Submit=Property&N=100007709&IsNodeId=1&maxPrice=100&PropertyCodeValue=679%3A39752%2C679%3A50263%2C679%3A100586%2C686%3A49755%2C686%3A25271%2C686%3A42010&bop=And&CompareItemList=48|14-162-076^14-162-076-TS%2C14-130-612^14-130-612-TS)

personally i'd get one of the cards in the first comparison. the XFX GTS 250 is probably the fastest card out of all of them. granted, it's more than $80, but not after the MIR :)

I have the GT 240 and does great. I didn't know the newer ones had dropped in price already.
Title: Re: Wish list.
Post by: webhead on April 03, 2011, 12:44:16 PM
I also have a GT 240 with GDDR5 by XFX (the GDDR5 models are a good bit faster than the GDDR3 ones). It's my first nVidia card and so far I love it. Beats the pants off of the ATI card I had before, which was BIG and required the 6-pin PSU connection; this new one is much smaller, faster, quieter, and more energy-efficient!

Erghhh. Can't make up my friggin Mind.

Can't decide on a video card. Trying to find a card that can run games good, like quakelive - high settings. And things like COD: black ops.

And I'm on a budget. Most i can spend on a card is 90. If that... Lol.

I'm debating on getting and ATI card. But Idk. Helppp.

The Radeon 5670 is a good-looking chip -- that was my second choice to the GT 240, actually.

Of those, I picked out 4 that looked good to me. [link (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Productcompare.aspx?Submit=Property&N=100007709&IsNodeId=1&PropertyCodeValue=679%3A54319&page=2&bop=And&CompareItemList=48|14-102-871^14-102-871-TS%2C14-150-504^14-150-504-TS%2C14-102-917^14-102-917-TS%2C14-125-360^14-125-360-TS)]
Don't forget that DDR3 models are slower.
The XFX card has excellent ratings, and it's the only one of the 4 that will only take up one slot, inside and out.

Personally, I'd get the XFX card, even though the more expensive one has more RAM.

Post by: capo on April 29, 2011, 06:33:09 PM
Hm, Didn't know the DDR3 Models were slower? lol. I thought, since it was supported for DDR3, It would respond alot faster.

But I'll check that link. Thanks =D

Edit: Checked the link out. I like the XFX card, But it runs on DDR5. Was wondering, Ram on a video card is different from Computer ram, right? So to say, If i were to buy DDR3 Ram for my Computer, This ddr5 xfx card would still run properly? Also, I'm wondering, If I post links to what I'm getting, Can you verify that It will work with everything? First computer I'm actually going to build, or... put together.

GDDR3 is not the same technology as regular DDR3.

okay. I'm using the basic case, that I had originally... which is this: http://www.google.com/search?q=compaq+presario+sr2050nx&hl=en&prmd=ivns&source=lnms&tbm=isch&ei=aW27TZDkDs2htwet99DEBQ&sa=X&oi=mode_link&ct=mode&cd=2&ved=0CAgQ_AUoAQ&biw=1024&bih=600

Would that work for all this?
