okay... so, i bought a new computer if u didnt know and i had an ATI CPI(GIO)
so i downloaded the latest drivers for dpb and the game worked just fine.
but the only problem i'm having now is the lag.
what can i do to fix this problem? ???
thanks.
-
If you're talking graphic lag, and not network lag, then there are two big things you can do to increase your framerate.
Bring down the console, (~), and type these three things.
r_oldmodels 1
r_reflectivewater 0
vid_restart
That should bring your framerate up quite a bit.
-
yeah, water kills you, you can try
sv_maxfps 60
-
1.) It's cl_maxfps and not sv_maxfps :P
2.) Cutting down the FPS won't help reducing the choppiness.
-
yes it will....if your set to 0, your getting unlimited, setting it to 60 only gets you 60, wont go higher...
if the case is your video card is a oc....but pci express shouldn't be
cl_maxfps
(sorry for the misspell bitmate)
Description: The maximum number of packets-per-second the server should send to the client to cap the frames-per-second rate.
-

I'm not new :P .
Anyways, the FPS are capped at 60 by default, unless you disabled vsync.
Speaking of a choppy game, your frames must be below 40, and I don't think CAPO! set cl_maxfps to any value near to that.
-
i thought paintball was capped at 0, seeing is how u type cl_maxfps and it says 0, with a default .cfg
checking your dxdiag is a good idea too
goto Run, type in DXDIAG, goto Display tab, and enable
-DirectDraw Acceleration
-Direct3D Acceleration
-AGP Texture Acceleration
seeing if them are disabled may help you...
-
None of those will help. I'm pretty sure messing with DirectX stuff doesn't help OpenGL at all.
-
Go into ATI's "Control Panel": Start | Control Pannel | Display Settings | Video Settings Tab (I think. But it is the last tab) | "Advanced". Once there, click on the largest tab on the top row, it should have the ATI logo on it. Click the big button in the middle (forget what it says, but it is the only button). Once the next window loads, go under "3D settings" and set ALL of them to "Low Quality" or "Performance". If that helps, experiment a bit by turning some stuff up and such.
-
It might also just be a problem with both ATI and Vista having poor support for OpenGL.
-
He's running Vista? In that case, what I said before would not help at all, merely confuse him. Oops. In Vista:
1. Right click on desktop.
2. Click "Personalize"
3. Click "Display settings"
4. Click the "Advanced Settings..." Button
5. Click on the largest tab on the top row, it should have the ATI logo on it.
6. Click the big button in the middle
7. Set everything to "Low Quality" or "Performance"
-
okay but i have windows vista because i just bought this computer...
omg its horrible.
i cant do half the things i could do with my old 4 year computer...
thanks for all the help but...
i think im just gonna retire from it becuz im tired of trying to figure out the settings and framework...
i had a ATI RADEON 2000
the game didnt work
but i upgraded
after i downloaded the ATI RADEON 3000
it worked...was choppy...did everything u told me...its anoyying...and still choppy..it brung the framwork up a little bit...so wutever...when my little bro gits his computer hooked up that was mines..which my files are still on there...then i'll be back... which will be tommarrow hopefully:)
-
ohh double post.
ya.
i think its the ATI video card
becuz i downloaded a game called WARROCK...and it takes 1 Gb to play...and it worked PERFECT!...
but....that game is merry...so i just set my files back to march 25th...:0
so it could be the card.
-
It's not the card, it's the drivers. You might have better luck if you just install XP on that computer.

haha, ownd
intercourse Vista
-

Haha. He will have better luck.
-
Vista might be nice in a year or two after the bugs are worked out.
But right now XP is the way to go.
-
But right now XP is the way to go.
eh yea i know... can some1 give me the official site for windows xp...
i just started lookin and its giving me like 10 diffrent versions... can i have the best ? lol.
thanks for all the help:)
-
Didn't your old computer come with a disk. Becuase if it did you could just use that one.
-
no...it came with it.
-
I have a setup disk for XP that I downloaded (legally), but I've lost the CD key and I don't feel like finding it. :P
-

FCKGW-...
hehe, I kid.
-
You can download XP legally?
-
You can download XP legally?
Everything is legal if you don't get caught. ;D
-
You can download XP legally?
MSDN AA, via 'higher-level' computer class. How else did you think I got the full version of Vista before it was officially released?
-
just go install windows 2000, most keys work for it, and windows update doesnt genuine advantage 2000..
when i 1st got 2003..
i downloaded it from microsoft, they gave me a serial
then i cracked it, and killed the time bomb, so i had a legal copy of it, forever, now you could say i have a "legit" copy.
XP is nice, its all eye candy, if you just want a good O/S , id choose 2003 and XP, and 2000 if you just want to be able to play some darn games!
-
XP is not eye candy, Vista is.
-
from Windows 2000 to XP, XP delivered eye candy, now XP to Vista, Vista defiantly holds the eye candy title now
-
XP is not eye candy, Vista is.
Too bad Vista is crap, even though it may look good.
-
some-one needs to lock this thread...
-
Too bad Vista is crap, even though it may look good.
Too bad I realized this after I installed it.
-
haha, i knew it was crap when Microsoft let u download it.... Vista inst all that bad after you turn off user account bullexcrement, then its all about computability, which Vista doesn't believe in, if you want compatibility with vista u need a Geforce 8800 which is the one and only DirectX10 card and we all know Vista is DirectX10, we can only hope they work for each other
-
The best thing to do is wait. There will be better and cheaper DX10 cards out and Vista has a service pack coming.
-
from Windows 2000 to XP, XP delivered eye candy...
More like eye sores. That XP theme was godawful. Blue and green with ugly, blobby gradients? Blech.
-
I remember when XP was beta under the codename Whistler, that was the only good XP theme. Someone made a better looking mockup called Opus: http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/9240396/
-
Eww @ rounded edges. But you're right, the whistler theme was like 5 million times better than the bliss theme XP shipped with (and didn't have ugly rounded corners, if I recall correctly).
-
::)
eh... so i looked and its like 150 dollars
no way around buying it?
i NEED IT!!!...
i havent played in like a week lol..zOMG..this sucks
-
There's probably a way to get it to work in Vista. It's just a matter of getting the right drivers. I'd try searching google for things like "vista ati opengl" and see if you have any luck finding something that will work.
You could also try setting "gl_allow_software" to 1 and let it run with OpenGL emulation. It will likely be very ugly, though. You'll have to edit your config file to change that setting (c:\games\paintball2\pball\configs\config.cfg).
-
@ Jitspoe: I mostly use Crux or microGUI in Linux. :-P
-
Have you gone to your computer manufacturer's site for drivers? Thats where I got mine, and nVidia hasn't released any 'final' drivers on their site yet.
-
nope ...but i'll try :)

nvidia has Win x32 and Win x64 drivers for Vista, also his card is ATI, but he cannot come through and give us a specific model...
goto your desktop, right click, goto properties, goto Settings tab, and under display it should show your monitor name and model # and what its connected too, look at what its connected too and post back, or take a screenshot for example the video card is circled in picture:

-
oh ok sorry.
but...
chip type- ATI Radeon Xpress Series (0x5A61)
dac type- Internal Dac (400mhz) <<<< didnt know if u needed that but o well
-
okay send a pic of yours just like i did before and send one like this for me, to due this, just hit the print screen button on your keyboard which falls after the f1-12 keys, then open paint.exe and goto edit > paste and save that picture as a jpg.

http://www2.ati.com/relnotes/catalyst_71_vista.html#192136 -- says that driver has native OpenGL support...
-
then what could be the problem?
because i downloaded build 16 and it said that i needed an openGL
-
-Get latest drivers
-Get not-Vista
-
https://a248.e.akamai.net/f/674/9206/0/www2.ati.com/drivers/7-3_vista32_dd_ccc_enu_43741.exe -- is that the driver you downloaded?
Oh, and try shutting off the fancy vista themes and crap that use hardware acceleration. I think that might break OpenGL.
-
AMD?
no i got the driver that came with the computer.
and to turn off vista settings what would i do to turn them off?
-
so i downloaded the latest drivers for dpb and the game worked just fine.
no i got the driver that came with the computer.
Uh... which one is it?
And AMD and ATI merged. Try installing that driver I linked above and see if it helps any. As for shutting off the fancy themes, I think you right click on the desktop and go to properties. It should be in there somewhere. Set it to the "classic" theme and see if that helps (after installing the new drivers).
-
yea but i set my computers date system back before i installed the latest drivers...idk if it would change...well of course it changed because it worked...but was choppy....and then when i set the date back it stopped workin ...
but i'll try to do what you just told me.
oh and i clicked the link and it said something about not being able to download it...but let me keep looking through it:)
-
Eh...double post...
ok so i looked for them...
and its giving me options...
and my computer is a 32-bit edition...and its vista...would i be able to install any driver from the list?...and if so which would be the best....??? if not...then my upgrade will be an ATI Radeon X1950 Series
-

Right click on the desktop, select "Personalize" then "Theme" (2nd from bottom).

You can't hot-link akamai resources like that :-\
-
:D
lol i hate to keep asking for help ... thanks for everything:)
haha only problem now is the choppyness.
i changed my theme but it does the same thing.
anyother ideas to why its choppy?...
it does that sometimes.
also...
it feels like im goin slow...really slow!
-
Type "cl_drawfps 1" at the console to see what framerate you're getting.

Bummer, try this:
http://ati.amd.com/support/drivers/vista32/integrated-vista32.html
Click on the "Catalyst Software Suite (32 bit)" download link.
Also, with as many posts as you've made, you might as well register an account so you can edit your posts and stuff.
-
okay...i already had a account but was never signing on...
so i did the cl_drawfps 1
and it showed me at 40 and lower in a room by myself.
and it wasn't choppy
when i got into a room with ppl in it...it jumped from 40 to 90 back down again...then thats when it becomes choppy
-
Try setting cl_sleep to 0, and make sure you don't have any processes running in the background (like virus scanners) bogging your machine down.
-
okay jits :)
the choppyness went down alot and the fps stayed in the 40 range.
buttt i have one more problem.
before i had gotten this computer and i was playing on my old comp. it use to feel like i was moving fast. well idk.
like...
when i got this computer it feels like im running slow and when im in the air im going slow...any anwser to that?
-
Play around with your fov. Crank it up to 130 and you "move" really fast. :)
