If you want me to write more tutorials, vote for it in the 2007 request thread. I can only do so many things.
I'm taking the initiative to lead the community in reforming tutorials, if you would like to help PM me or post below.
Post here with any of the following:
1. A comment directly related to the thread.
2. A link to a tutorial/guide
3. A request for a tutorial/guide
4. A revised (improved) tutorial/guide
5. An idea on how to improve any tutorial/guide
Don't worry if you accidentally post a duplicate guide or dupe a link.
The plan is to eventually incorporate all the known tutorials nicely into the Wiki, but for now it'd be great to get all the tutorials prepped and ready.
Thanks so much for your help and participation, hopefully this will help everyone become better mappers, as well as lead to less simple 'newbie question' posts.
Cheers,
y00tz
Mapping/Development Tutorials:
(This will be updated often)
Beginner:
Installing and Starting BSP (http://digitalpaint.planetquake.gamespy.com/testwiki1/pb2wiki.php?word=Installing+and+Starting+BSP) from wiki.
This tutorial explains how to install and begin using BSP which is the tool used to create maps for Digital Paint 2
BSP Basics (http://dpball.com/forums/index.php?topic=714.0) from Jitspoe.
This is a small tutorial on using BSP.
Mapping Guide (BSP + WorldCraft (http://digitalpaint.planetquake.gamespy.com/testwiki1/pb2wiki.php?word=Mapping+Guide) from wiki/Dirty_Taco.
This tutorial covers mapping in both BSP and WorldCraft, the two leading tools for mapmaking in Digital Paint 2.
BSP in Wiki (http://digitalpaint.planetquake.gamespy.com/testwiki1/pb2wiki.php?word=BSP) from wiki.
This is the entry in the Digital Paint 2 wiki on BSP.
Readme for New Mappers (http://dplogin.com/forums/index.php?topic=3031.0) from Jitspoe.
This is a list of dos and dont's that every mapper needs to read before they begin mapping for Digital Paint 2.
Map Release Guide (http://digitalpaint.planetquake.gamespy.com/testwiki1/pb2wiki.php?word=Map+Release+Guide) from wiki.
This guide covers what you need to know when releasing a map, and doing it right will alleviate a lot of stress on both the developer and the community.
Moderate:
Color Lights (http://dplogin.com/forums/index.php?topic=5896.msg67692#msg67692) from Zorchenheimer.
This is just a 2 (non-consecutive) post tutorial, if someone re-vamps this let me know.
Creating an .ent File (http://dplogin.com/forums/index.php?topic=1337.msg14103#msg14103) from XtremeBain.
This tutorial show how to setup a .ent file for a map.
Ladders (http://digitalpaint.planetquake.gamespy.com/testwiki1/pb2wiki.php?word=ladders) from wiki.
Everything you need to know about ladders. Be sure to read this first before attempting to make your own ladders, because some parts mentioned in here are needed to make your ladders work smoothly (Re: clipping).
King of the Hill Gamemode (http://dplogin.com/forums/index.php?topic=1737.msg19240#msg19240) from Jitspoe.
This is a mini-tutorial showing how to make a KotH map.
Advanced:
Location files (http://digitalpaint.planetquake.gamespy.com/testwiki1/pb2wiki.php?word=Loc+Files) (.loc) from wiki.
From the tutorial: A loc (*.loc) file is used to make text recon easier. The way it works is you give a name to an aria, "Red Flag" for example, then you bind a key to tell you where you are or an enemy is. Also, each map uses its own loc file.
Menu Guide (http://digitalpaint.planetquake.gamespy.com/testwiki1/pb2wiki.php?word=Menu+Guide) (includes Widgets) from wiki.
This tutorial shows you how to edit the in-game menus much like Zorchenheimer has.
Creating custom textures (http://digitalpaint.planetquake.gamespy.com/testwiki1/pb2wiki.php?word=Creating+Custom+Textures) from wiki.
This simple tutorial teaches you how to import your textures in to BSP for use in your maps.
Light Entities (http://www.gamedesign.net/node/27) from RUST (posted by Jitspoe).
This tutoral leaves this site and goes to GameDesign.Net. This tutorial covers Quake 2 Light Entities which are used in Digital Paint 2.
Gameplay and Game Guides:
Getting into the Clan Scene (http://dplogin.com/forums/index.php?topic=2004.0) from Dirty_Taco.
This guide shows new players how to effectively integrate into the clan community.
Binding Guide (http://digitalpaint.planetquake.gamespy.com/testwiki1/pb2wiki.php?word=Binding+Guide) from the Wiki (posted by Apocalypse).
Colored Text Guide (http://digitalpaint.planetquake.gamespy.com/testwiki1/pb2wiki.php?word=Coloured+Text+Guide) from the Wiki (posted by Apocalypse, updated by bitmate).
Needed:
Custom HUD numbers guide. I'm sure it's out there.
Custom crosshair guide.
Guide to binding (Someone please verify this is already NOT mentioned in any of the tutorials above).
Guide to colored text.
Thanks a lot Apocalypse!
Thanks to: Zorchenheimer, Dirty_Taco, Jitspoe, and anyone else who has contributed an tutorial or to the Wikis
Notes:
Some of these tutorials are over 4 years old and may not be compatible with the latest versions of software you are using. Again some of these are FOUR years old, do not bump the topic! Also if you like someone's tutorial, don't be afraid to give them some karma.
If a tutorial you want isn't here: Create, request, or find and post it, please.

Zorch and DT can you copy and paste your messages to a new post and remove the ones you have? I'd like this to be conjoined in case it soon needs to carry over.
Edit: Thanks Zorch! What I might do is leave the top post for mapping and development and make this post for gameplay and faq, thoughts?
Cheers,
y00tz

Zorch: I'm still uploading those as we speak, thanks :)
Edit: Community Guide is dead link, did it get deleted? Do we still have it? Thanks
DT: http://dplogin.com/forums/index.php?topic=2004.0 has two *DEAD* links for mIRC 6, can you update or remove?
Other than the links, the spelling, grammar, context and syntax are exactly what I'd like to see for all tutorials.
Thanks, y00tz.

It was spam. I restored it to an earlier revision, so its back now. (hit "List Revisions" and it will show all of the revisions of that page)

I wanted to start doing some thing like this, but never got around to it. So to help you out, here is the list already on the wiki. Some of this stuff needs to be revised and/or combined (I think there are a few tut's on the same thing).

We really ought to get the list on the Wiki, I just don't know how. If someone wants to update the wiki with this list, feel free.
-
How do I make a seperate page for a guide y00tz.
-
Type the name of the page in the search box and if it doesnt exist it will ask you if you want to add it.
-
Hey y00tz I put in a coloured text and binding guide so check those off.
-
Wow, they look good! Thanks a lot Apocalypse!
-
My menu guide is probably up on the wiki, cant remember how it was named tho...
Edit: Oh, didnt notice it was already there.
Menu Guide (http://digitalpaint.planetquake.gamespy.com/testwiki1/pb2wiki.php?word=Menu+Guide) (includes Widgets) from wiki.
This tutorial shows you how to edit the in-game menus much like Zorchenheimer has.
-
I believe that's yours (it says by Cobo) I just listed all the guides that I could find on here so that they can be added to the guides page on the wiki.
-
Yeah, thats my tutorial, It's not very finished tho, it still needs some kind of reference to all the types of widgets there are, and such.
-
I added that stuff in the "Quick Reference (http://digitalpaint.planetquake.gamespy.com/testwiki1/pb2wiki.php?word=Quick+Reference)" page.
-
Wow, they look good! Thanks a lot Apocalypse!
No problem I get thoughs questions so much I thought the might help out. Nice job on the quick reference page Zorch.
-
Edited Apocalypse's wiki entry with my post in the thread TinMan mentioned:
http://digitalpaint.planetquake.gamespy.com/testwiki1/pb2wiki.php?word=Coloured+Text+Guide
Thanks bitmate.
Could someone look over the console commands page (i believe it's linked on the welcome page) and add some more commands (specifically the useful ones) and write what they do.
And if anyone else has time, feel free to explain what all the commands do in the wiki so that it's documented.
Cheers,
y00tz

Good job on that bitmate! I even never knew how to do that :)

Good job on that bitmate! I even never knew how to do that :)
That's why we need better documentation in the wiki... thus I added it :)
-
That's why we need better documentation in the wiki
Thus we started this thread :)
I agree with you 100%. I don't see why every question couldn't be answered in the wiki, now it's just to the point of getting out there and doing it.
-
Yeah if we get enough on the wiki we could finally get help and support just for technical stuff.
