Hi...
I just started a server.. but its kinda laggy...
how do i fix it? ...any ways to reduce laggyness?
-
If you are running Windows XP or Vista make sure that some worthless program is not raping your CPU.
Also think about setting the priority higher on Paintball2 (make sure it is the server and not the actual game).
-
umm... how the hack do you do that.. lol
-
Hit ctrl+alt+delete and then click on the processes tab.
-
Get a better internet connection. :3
-
how do i know which ones i need to end?
-
Just guess then if you intercourse it up just restart your computer and don't do that one next time. ;D
Hint: Don't end svchost.exe - It will automatically restart your computer
-
oh... lol i was going to end svhost.exe... lol there were lots of them... so just guess.. hmmm i could do that
-
spark before you do anything , if you post your system specs up here, eg RAM, cpu and operating system it would help us diagnose the problem. Also what speed internet connection do you have?
-
hi... lekky
i am going to try to answer these question...
my connection speed is right know 24.0mps...
CPU usage is right know 8% ~ 2% but whenever more than 7 people join it rises up..
PF usuage is 362MB
how do i figure out my ram and operating system?
my ping is really low though

Right click on My Computer and then click on Properties and it is down towards the bottom.

I don't know a ton about servers, but I do know that if you don;t have a fast interent connection (fast being T1 or close to it, which you almost definatley need a fiber optics connection for) then your server might easily lag alot.

Eiii already settled that soldier.

Oh, alright, sorry, I didn't see that post.
-
i have 504 ram!!!
-
also my internet connection is really good... its hightspeed bell and i think the problem is because i am using wirless internet conneciton
-
That may easily be it.
-
i have 504 ram!!!
That sounds strange. Probably 512 actually.

That is definitely the problem.
-
That's what I said.
-
is 504 or 512 ram good??? oh and any other way you can reduce laggness?? jitspoe would know ...
-
512 MB RAM is okay, most computers today have at least 1 GB.
The only way to reduce lag really is to give the server as much CPU and bandwidth usage as possible.
-
ok.. thx... but i tryied to increase CPU as much as possible. and how about bandwidth.. how do i do that??
lol i can just aim u... since i got it...lol
-
how about bandwidth.. how do i do that??

Then it's not really good. You should never run a server on wireless.
-
Why wouldn't you run it on your normal computer to start with though ?

I <3 you Soldier. :D

Not to be demeaning but that is the first smart thing I've seen from you.
+1 you if I could.
-
Uhhh... KiLo, I hate to make you take that plus away, but he should have said 'connection' instead of computer...
-
YOU WHAT ME??? WHAT DOES <3 MEAN???
And thank you KiLo, but what is so good about it?
-
= 512 mb RAM is plenty to run a server off of. Unless you are running a ton of programs also that will kill you. What kind of CPU do you have? Just go to where you found out how much RAM you have and it will say something like Pentium 4 CPU 2.80 Ghz
= The Wireless is your biggest problem for lag. I know with most Wireless Routers you can get up to 54 mbps. That isn't really enough to get you anywhere. You might wanna take some Cat5e cable and run it from your router to your computer if you plan on running a server from it.
= If you have any other questions PM me on here and i will gladly help you.
= I say +1 for everyone today!!!!!

I got... Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.60GHz 2.59 GHz
-
Yep drop the wireless internet.

Best plan right there.
Edit: Smartest thing I ever heard twistdid say too. :)

= Well thank you Kilo, see I did learn something in that wonderful class. Well besides how to hide things so well that not even the administrator can find it or Juniors, which ever one you really don't want to have it.

what i noticed is that when you just start a server for the first time on a computer that have not ran a paintball server that it will lag for about a week then stop after the computer gets used to it but 512 actually really sucks 1 gig or 2 should be good
-
I'm also getting alot of lag problems with my server.
I'm getting like 1-15 ping, while everyone else is getting 200+ they all keep complaining about it and I need help lowering it. I have a 2 gig RAM and I'm connected directly to the router/cable modem and I also closed everything not needed. =l
-
Cable has a pretty bad upload compared to DSL- and even on DSL, you'd probably have problems with about 8 people on your server. Really, if you want a server, a hosting company is the way to go.
-
I noticed that when you first run your server it will lag a lot for a couple of weeks but then the lag will go away.
-
my server ran for a good 4 months and i never really had any lag problems with it (seeing as how all the people who played on it were a few streets away from me) but i ran it with a cable connection.
good to see that you are trying to fix the problem spark, i've taken alot of crap from kids i play with bcuz i lost to some kid who CLEARLY wasn't lagging, and i could barely move on your server. Although everyone SAID he was lagging just as bad as me, i noticed somehow that he could strafe run right into my base, run past me, go back for the flag, and kill me before i could get to the nearest gun... whatever. i beat him on the official tryout...
