how do you make your own website
-
:D
Well first you need some hosting. If you want an interactive website with polls, accounts, etc. then you'll probably have to buy some. Otherwise...
If you want an easy simple site without interactivity and/or you have no l33t HTML or PHP skillz, go to http://www.freewebs.com
Mind you, that is the freeloader's way out. And it sucks.

You can google for web making tutorials. I know there about ~50 tutorials written in estonian so I guess finding some help in english or whatever language is your native language, or whatever language you prefer, shouldnt be hard :D

how do you make your own website
Since your asking how we make our websites, instead of how you'd make one, here's how I do it..
1. After necessary client and sales visits have been made, and contracts have been signed, I contact our in-house web designer, Paul.
2. Paul spends 30-40 hours in close contact with the client, designing the page layout and structure that the client wants, and sends me the appropriate PSD, AI, font files, etc. For some reason Paul usually calls this file LOL_PONIES!!111ONEELEVENTY.zip or something close to it...
3. The dossier arrives on my desk, usually via a package containing a CD for Paul's files, a DVD for any video to be incorporated, any specialty software they want included, any stock photos, logos, etc. that the customer already owns, as well as a 40-50 page briefing.
4. I open Dreamweaver, Photoshop, Illustrator, SQL Enterprise Manager, Visual Web Developer, and occasionally, PHP Designer 2007.
5. I use Dreamweaver to study the design and finish the cookie cutter style CSS that Paul has left me. I develop the CSS alongside lolz_ponies.html. I guess we're both weird..
6. I study the database structure, and setup the tables.
7. After the design work looks good in the browsers we care about (in order of importance) .. IE7, FF, IE6, Opera, Konqueror .. I begin working with the ASP.net stuff.
8. I work with VB or C# for a while, then I'll have 80 hours invested, with a site that looks good in the 5 browsers....
9. Collect my share of the $35k (usually only 25% :()
edit... Oh yeah, if it's Flash driven, add an extra 25 hours...

Web designing professionally is icccccccky.
Unless your into that kinda stuff, I guess.
-
It's not iccccccky, it just don't pay well at most places, but once in a while you hear of someone who does actually get big bucks for it. It's still something that's good to know for your own use.
-
man I wish I owned the internet *sigh* lol.
Holmsey if you don't want to pay I suggest you stick to freewebs and similar websites.
-
Or get hosting on a free shell site...there's literally thousands of them as long as you keep your content non-commercial.
-

wow, somebody else that's heard of phpd. i used to use it, but now that the 2007 version has come along, he charges for the pro version. which sucks. so i just use notepad++.

well i'm in your clan now, and i emailed you. so check your email if you get this first.

I hated PHP Designer. It was slow, extremely buggy (crashing it was a cinch), and new versions did not fix anything. I gave up on that stupid IDE.
-
i agree, it was slow. and the author seemed to have trouble getting around to all of the bugs that were being reported. he eventually shut down his bug tracking area on his site. although now he just takes bug reports in the forums.
but i haven't used it since the 06 version.

Frontpage is the way to go.
Haha, </sarcasm> ?
Frontpage is discontinued now.. what do they call the new thing.. expression web developer? I don't know..
My experience with Dreamweaver has been great, ironically up until this morning, at which point it will not open...
-
/me disables his remote dialup h4x0r DW exploit so that y00tz can get to work
-
bottom line = dreamweaver is pretty good; frontpage generates crap code; notepad++ FTW.

You mean Visual Web Developer?

I know of Visual Web Developer, I swore they had some Expressions Web Designer that was closer to FrontPage.

LOLOL, no not fp express. i do remember that though, it came with Win98. it's what i used to teach myself.
-
What do you know, I was actually right :D
Microsoft FrontPage has since been replaced by Microsoft Expression Web and Sharepoint Designer.
-
What do you use now? Notepad? Notepad++?
I think I've mentioned this before. SciTE. :D
And I'm not switching, unless someone finds me an editor that is just as fast, has more features, and doesn't look ugly (Notepad++ is ugly).

Probably, I also have 8 pages of unread threads to tend to soon...
