how do you make your own website
Since your asking how we make our websites, instead of how you'd make one, here's how I do it..
1. After necessary client and sales visits have been made, and contracts have been signed, I contact our in-house web designer, Paul.
2. Paul spends 30-40 hours in close contact with the client, designing the page layout and structure that the client wants, and sends me the appropriate PSD, AI, font files, etc. For some reason Paul usually calls this file LOL_PONIES!!111ONEELEVENTY.zip or something close to it...
3. The dossier arrives on my desk, usually via a package containing a CD for Paul's files, a DVD for any video to be incorporated, any specialty software they want included, any stock photos, logos, etc. that the customer already owns, as well as a 40-50 page briefing.
4. I open Dreamweaver, Photoshop, Illustrator, SQL Enterprise Manager, Visual Web Developer, and occasionally, PHP Designer 2007.
5. I use Dreamweaver to study the design and finish the cookie cutter style CSS that Paul has left me. I develop the CSS alongside lolz_ponies.html. I guess we're both weird..
6. I study the database structure, and setup the tables.
7. After the design work looks good in the browsers we care about (in order of importance) .. IE7, FF, IE6, Opera, Konqueror .. I begin working with the ASP.net stuff.
8. I work with VB or C# for a while, then I'll have 80 hours invested, with a site that looks good in the 5 browsers....
9. Collect my share of the $35k (usually only 25%
)
edit... Oh yeah, if it's Flash driven, add an extra 25 hours...
