No I have the direct 9.c . Could it be my graphics driver installed funky? Thanks for the help anyhow. Just weird and slightly annoying.

I'm not sure if this applies, but for XP, there's a program called driver cleaner which you can use to clean out the old drivers before (re)installing new ones.  If it works with win98, you might give it a shot, but be sure to read the instructions carefully.

I have been looking for a good  3rd party reg cleaner. Will that software help like windows wipe etc?

FYI I have dumped 2.5 aao, everything works fine, so far.

ok installed aao 2.5 .  I guess its to cumbersome for my little 64 meg vid card. *shrugs
