A week without forums.
« on: October 29, 2007, 09:40:23 AM »
Yes, I'm requesting a week without forums every month or every 2 months or whatever.

FOR WHAT OMGZZZ I CANT LIVE WITHOUT THIS FORUMS :)

-Lets all talk on IRC about this game and about other stuff.
-Lets make the new players see that IRC IS important to integrate in this community
-A bunch of other reasons

:D

A better idea might be to advertise things like a biweekly 'developer chat' or maybe a panel of players that participate in a 1-2hr discussion in #paintball, answering questions, etc.  I think it might encourage new players to use the Chat link to get into IRC and see what it's all about.

A biweekly 'developer chat' wont encourage new players to use the chat link at all :|
That's a good idea though.
Still, 1 week without forums per month :)

Maybe jitspoe should just install one of the many terrible forum software available (like the old bboard) which would force us all to use IRC more.

I nag you everyday in IRC (THATS THE WAY) so..

hmm P!nk i don't think people are THAT MUCH addicted

But seems like this is a bad idea so nevermind, let's make all newbies think post count = skill.

Then they'd just think that @#paintball = skill.  It's fine that not everyone is in IRC.  It's not like we're competing for idler counts to lock in those clan ventrilo/dp server sponsorships.  There's a few things in the works from different parts of the community that will increase DP's web-presense.  Ultimately, that is what we should be going after.

Although you have good intentions, every aspect of your idea is negative.  If people come here for three weeks trying to make their clan tag work with their funname, then all of a sudden receive a "SORRY WE'LL BE BACK IN ONE WEEK" message, they'll probably just go back to playing tremulous or whatever other game their parents don't have to pay for.

lies, they will go on IRC and get their problems solved much faster
(because the message wouldn't be "SORRY WE'LL BE BACK IN ONE WEEK", it would be "CLICK THIS LINK IF YOU HAVE ANY PROBLEMS OR IF YOU JUST WANT TO TALK TO PEOPLE WHO PLAY THIS GAME AND WITH WHOM YOU CAN LEARN ALOT").

It'd be pretty bad to cut off forum access for a week, but I agree that we need a stronger (non-clan) IRC presence.

Maybe making the IRC window more visible, with explanation of what is it for and how to use it.
