Server Troubles
« on: November 26, 2007, 04:33:49 AM »
Followed every instruction from DP Resource Server Troubleshoot... ports have been forwarded. Any ideas?

DP Resource Public Server Troubleshooter
Specified server information: 220.245.178.133:27910
RCON password provided? yes
Run at Mon, 26 Nov 2007 10:29:43 +0000

TEST PROCESS
===================
> Checking if 220.245.178.133:27910 can be connected to...
>    Writing to socket: '\xFF\xFF\xFF\xFFstatus\n'
>    Attempting to read, 3 second timeout...
>    Error: ICMP destination unreachable: unreachable port

RECOMMENDATIONS
===================
* Your server may not even be running; try connecting to it on this computer: run /connect 127.0.0.1:27910 in console
* Your server's port may not be forwarded; make sure you forward your ports for UDP port 27910 (and make sure it's set to the right computer address)
* Your server's port may be firewalled; make sure you allow port 27910 through your firewall

start by doing a port for ward of 27900 to 27930 udp to your server.

Then go to www.ipchicken.com and verify that is your correct public ip address.

Make sure you save the settings to flash.

make sure that your firewall is either off or more prefered, has 27900-27930 udp allowed through it.

Make sure you actually have the server turned on when you run the test.

Vista shouldn't have anything to do with the router. Doesn't matter now so long as the server is working.

It's probably because of a software firewall on the Vista machine then.

ok on the vista machine i have the server showing up on my comp but not others
for some reason it is using ip adress 192.168.1.7 instead of 220.245.178.132
the 220.245.178.132 is the ip adress from www.ipchicken.com and is also the adress i forward the ports to.
do you know how i can change it from using the wrong ip?

My server is running from my computer running Vista. I had to change my TCP IP Settings though. I changed my IPv4 from the default settings ( Optain an Ip automatically ) To my static Ip adress ( Which is 192.168.1.7 in your case i think) Changed the default gateway to my router's ip and the DNS servers settings. I find out how to do it with Vista there http://portforward.com/networking/static-vista.htm
Try also to disable your firewall and run your server. Maybe the problem is from the ''Great'' Windows Vista Firewall.

Linksys sucks, though, however, all routers that I've gone through have sucked.

D-Link was my first and my worst. It didn't work half the time after a few weeks/months. This router effectively stopped working eventually.

Second (or maybe third) was an Intel router. I forget what problems this router had, but I know I had some trouble with it. This router was replaced because we were going wireless. :)

Third in line was my Linksys. After heavy traffic usage, the router would saturate all the connections until it reached a point where 90% of packets would just timeout. The problem was solved by doing a cold reboot. However, after a few months, the router died completely after a cold reboot. Not to forget, the dynamic DNS option in the router did not actually work.

We're currently using a NETGEAR router at home. However, this thing has its own share of problems. The port forwarding does not correctly work. Once you add a mapping, there's a 50% chance it will disappear off the list, in which after you will be unable to edit or delete it, AND the mapping itself stops to work.  You cannot re-add it because it's still on the list, even if it's invisible. This router seems to experience the same connection saturation problem as my Linksys router, but to a MUCH lesser degree (cold reboots are only done maybe once or twice a month).

Actually, to think about it... I think we might have gone through a Belkin router.

Linksys blows both Belkin and Netgear out of the water easily, as well as D-Link.

D-Link is worthless. It's like lamsumer stuff.

But in my case, Linksys didn't blow both out of the water. In fact, it sucked.

ok look. the ipchicken address is the one that people from the outside world will connect to. this address points at your modem.

try this though: you don't want to be port-forwarding to 220.245.178.132, as this address does not exist on your LAN. you need to forward to 192.168.1.x (whatever ip your computer has), because THAT is the address that points your router straight to your computer.
By the way... you might also consider setting it up to give your computer a static ip address each time. that way, you won't have to change the port-forward setting everytime you reboot or whatnot.

does that help any?

and also:
...
and i cant forward 27900-27930 udp because its says "The maximum number of entries above is 20"

thats a misinterpretation. it's saying that a max of 20 ENTRIES can be made. an entry could be a single port forwarded, or a RANGE of ports which is what you need.

fill it in like this:
Public Port - Start: 27900
Public Port - End: 27930
Private Port: (set to whatever your server uses. might be 27910 or something)
Port Type: UDP
Host IP Address: (your computer's address on the LAN. not ipchicken, but rather ipconfig. :) )

and take out all the other ones. i believe you only need that single entry. (somebody correct me if i'm wrong)
