yup..  Make it real simple so there is no arguing. If you put too many features then people will manipulate it.

I'll set a bot up right now.  Simply go to #paintball and type !tie to receive a randomly generated map.  It will pull from a large majority of commonly played maps, and not so common maps, that are well constructed.  (And as soon as Xbain makes his, and it's 10x better than mine, I'll just remove mine so I don't embarrass myself too much :D )

I just want some feedback from players first, because I know if I just simply pick a group of maps people are bound to call it unfair or simply that I pick terrible maps.

I don't want to make it overly complicated but it needs to be a little more fair than "I just typed !tie and it said we have to play propaint1 or you forfeit".

Yeah, I'm going to set it up with the features !tie 2v2, 3v3, etc.  And I'm going to hand-pick 20ish maps for it.  I guess it will be a beta test of it to see if people even like the idea.

I like the idea of '!tie map1 map2', and have one group of maps that are all suitable for 3v3-5v5.

what about like '!tie map1 map2 3v3' and the 3v3 goes up to 5v5 and it'll give you a map that's good for that amount of players absed off of the size... if it's possible...

I don't really think I'm understanding what you're proposing Xbain, is it randomly choosing between the two maps that the person suggests?  Such as: "!tie propaint1 castle1", "Castle1 is now your tiemap!".  Or that The generator suggests two maps to be played, and the teams fight it out amongst themselves?  Or am I completely missing the picture :-\

Team A picks castle1, Team B picks propaint1.  At that time there are 10 different maps in the map pool.  A player types !tie castle1 propaint1 and the bot randomly picks a map from the 10 that is not castle1 or propaint1.

That can work too.  But then it becomes whoever can get luckier, and get ones of their favourtie maps played.  The other way it has a fairer chance of having a map both teams have played the same, leaving everything to raw talent.

I wouldn't use this bot.  Sounds pretty stupid to me.  Why not just decide in game or before the match?

Well if you were euro, you would have to match all these czech newbies who refuse to play anything else but shock.

Alright, I have the bot set up (for now) in #paintball.  Type !tie 2v2, 3v3, etc to get a tie map.  Enjoy :)

The way it should work to make it fair across the board and force teams to learn more maps is to have a random 3 to 4 maps each month for each size of match. For instance....
1st month for 2v2 or 3v3 have small to medium maps like pbcup, back2back, disaster, and shaz22. For a 4v4 or 5v5 have larger maps such as pbcup sandassualt, renoir, shaz33 and the likes. Make it straight random. If you leave it to random chance then neither team can really complain. It all boils down to how hard each team practices. With switching maps once a month or every two weeks the teams that are willing to go the extra step to work together and learn them will have the advantage. If you allow teams to input which maps they want then there will be complaining and excuses. Make it completely random. Too easy.

I think Xtremebain's idea would be the best overall.

This is why people should pick the maps out before the match. :P

Don't see the difference in spending 1h before or 1h after the first 2 maps tbh, in fact if it doesnt get to a tie map you've still wasted 1h that you wouldnt with the general current way of doing it!

If you decide before the match you won't waste an hour.

It still takes the same amount of time to decide...
