New High Res Textures
« on: January 25, 2008, 10:45:57 PM »
I made a couple of high-res textures that I am now releasing under the GPL.  I attempted to make them pretty close to the general shading and design of their low-quality brethren so as not to change the theme of any maps already incorporating the default textures, but obviously this was not always possible.

Nice job man.  Now if only we get a Community High Res. Texture Pack together...
By the way, admins dislike 3 posts in a row.

For some reason I really dont' think that Herron cares about what the admins like or dislike.

Second crate looks too dark in the center, too much shadow, it'll look cheap in game, the rest of it is fairly polished and looks nice, mind if I pack it with the CTP?
By the way, admins dislike 3 posts in a row.

There is a maximum of 8 attachments per post, I have no problem with him reserving 24 attachments of space at the top so that they are easy to see.

And what's with the unnecessary forum hatred against the mods?  It's not called for, and off-topic.

I meant no hate against the mods.  I said his textures were sexy and then told him that 3 posts in a row isn't needed because at the time, the 3rd post has nothing in it.  I understand the attachment thing.  Sorry to have caused any trouble.

I believe y00tz was referring to mine and Spook's posts.

But back on topic the new textures do look very well done.

Yeah, I just realized I had uploaded the wrong version.  My naming convention got messed up when I was messing around with putting screws in and I uploaded from the wrong directory.  It should be fixed now.

If I wasn't doing this to make high-res versions of existing textures I wouldn't mind, but since the point of these textures is to work with both current and future maps, I'd rather you didn't include them in the CTP.  It seems counterintuitive to have future map makers using textures with a CTP path (and forcing a download of those textures, whether it be through the server or through the forums) when the default, albeit lower quality, texture is already included in the client.

Not my intent at all!  I'm trying to do the textures that no one else has upgraded yet, and I wasn't sure if the box4_(1-3) textures in yours were released under the GPL.  Although, I did redo tread1.jpg because the one in your pack looked scaled a little too high for my tastes (try looking at it on the map hca_fort).

Most of my other textures are the same as in your pack, which is why I made a new thread instead of hijacking yours.  One you might want to add though is one that jits posted on January 5th:  http://dplogin.com/files/textures/pball/hr4/w_metal1.jpg  -- it makes pbcup look a little different, but that's what Fryth gets for using a metal texture instead of "switzsnowfull"  :P

Edit:  Jits also has high-res versions of the following textures that aren't in your pack:
b_metal1
cliff2_8
emetal1_3
metal1_8
metal4_7
metal5_8
p_metal1
r_metal1
rockj1_2_
roofp1_1
uwall1_3
w_metal1 (see above)
y_metal1

and different versions of:
b_tile
city2_6
p_tile
r_tile
wwall1_1 (I have/use the same one you do though because I think it looks better on most of the maps that have already incorporated it)
y_tile

Go to http://dplogin.com/files/textures/pball/hr4/ to get all of jits' high-res textures

If you mean the jaildoor, well... I'm not a locksmith ;) but if you mean doorp1, I was just trying to make it look like the original:

We need an ultimate HR4 pack. Then I can shove it in the community edition.

The problem with doorp1 though, is that the original texture doesn't have the rods between the folding panels.

Rods?  That's just the shading... I guess I could just rotate the whole thing 180 degrees and see if that looks any better...

Thank you very much for those textures Herron, I'll be sure to update my pack.  :)

By the way, I love those crate textures.  And the tread is pretty nice as well. (Not that the others aren't as well)
