Computer Help
« on: February 22, 2008, 05:52:16 PM »
heh

I was in the middle of working on a project and my computer freezes up. It stays like this for about 6 minutes. So i decide to just turn it off  by holding in the power button :).

But when i try starting it back up it says...Sorry, windows couldn't start up. Please select the following below...or something like that :\

It had like 4 choices....

Safe mode with command prompt
Safe mode with network
Safe mode
and Start windows normal

I tried them all....The windows loading menu comes up...as if it will work...but just goes back to the same thing......SAFE MODE BLAh...

Nothing works....anyway fixing it or what? Can some1 tell me what the problem is...

Thanks for your time.

Do you get an error when you try and boot Windows normally (eg BSOD) or does it just sit there and do nothing on a particular screen?

When i try booting windows normally it LOOKS as if it will load up......But it just goes back to the same screen...The screen where it gives you options..like safe mode..etc.

I try running it in safe mode and a big list pops up...like

multi(0)disc(1)system
etc.

But then goes back to the screen and yea...
boot from a CD

I no longer have an XP cd....so eh...

As for now, I'm on this POS vista

When you boot in safe mode it lists everything it loads on the screen.  That is normal.  It will pause on the last item for a few seconds then continue to load Windows.

Yes, but it doesn't load windows up....

It just goes back to the same screen...over and over...

usually in this case it's some sort of corrupted driver or system file that actually causes the computer to reboot instantly. Sorry buddy, slave the hard drive in another computer, pull off the files you need, and reinstall windows.

When your computer locked up it was probably WRITING to the file that is now corrupt, turning your computer off while it was doing something important effectively destroyed the file.

boot in to safe mode with comamnd prompt and see what file hangs when its loading.  That will be your clue.
