Taxes
« on: April 03, 2008, 12:29:29 AM »
Somebody recommended http://www.taxact.com/ for doing my taxes.  Supposedly it's completely free, but I'm kind of skeptical.  What do they get out of it?

They are on the partner list from the IRS.

I have been using Intuit's TurboTax for years though and probably still will. They have free usage for folks that make under a certain amount but unfortunately I get charged.

I second turbo tax.  Their basic package I believe is $19.00 if you don't have state income tax ( texas).  I've been using to do my taxes for longer than I care to admit.

Free is cheaper than $19. ;)  Plus I have state taxes. :(

Intuit must make a killing.  Like $20-40 per copy of TurboTax, and a huge audience that buys it every year.

North America?  Probably.

Paris Island would be a bit of a trek now.

This is messed up.  I lost money in one of my investments, yet some how that causes me to owe an extra $100 in taxes?

Just curious because I know that around military bases there's normally someone that all the younger soldiers go to by word of mouth that normally does an outstanding job compared to the commercial tax companies like H&R.
