Will work for BETTER maps (or food too)
« on: April 04, 2008, 11:56:20 AM »
Submit your concepts of objects, textures, maps etc.  And I'll gladly do my best to provide you with custom environmental assets/props under two conditions:

1.  I'll hand you the SMD models and the JPEG/TGA textures, but YOU have to create the SKM/MD2 and the WALs respectively, it's the biggest pain in the arse and the reason I avoid making stuff.

2.  You need to release the SKM/MD2 and WALs along with your map so that other developers can use them.

I just want to see some better maps that don't feel like boxes in a bigger box.

I don't remember having to use wals for model textures? You can use JPG or TGA...

Isn't this basically like the SgP thing? I'll send you a pm...

edit: sent.

WALs are for brush textures.

SqP needs time to organize, I've bought 3DS Max as well for that project, but this is an open call to anyone looking to make better maps.

Didn't know that, I'd still like WALs for compatibility, and I don't use the latest version.

WALs are used in the Rad or Light process, I think.

So .wal's are basically obsolete then?  Jpegs are nicer looking then .wals in game.

y00tz, does this have to do with you mapping team?

WALs are used in the Rad or Light process, I think.

It does shove a load of errors in there if it can't find textures but I've never seen a difference in the output and don't fully understand why the rad compiler needs to see the textures anyway.

.wal's are obsolete for the game, yes.  However, the compiler complains if if can't find them.

This sounds like the "who's on first" routine.

.wal's also store handy default information, like light.  In the compiler, they provide color information for reflected light.  Try making a room with a solid grey texture and one light, then use the red metal on one wall.  You'll see what it does.
