I need basic server help.
« on: May 13, 2008, 03:02:59 AM »
 ::) Default Gateway  ::)
How do I find it? I have Windows Vista, Home Basic, I went to my Command Prompt and typed in 'IPConfig' and it came up with many different 'Local Area Connection's - And on one particular one it has the Ethernet Local Area Connection. - This was the only one to show a Default Gateway, but unfortunately when I typed it in the adress bar, nothing happend. - WTF? Does this mean I can never portforward? x_x;
My Modem is a Motorola SB5101 SURFboard Cable Modem, and so far I've found nothing to help me.. - Please help me? I will be extreemly grateful.. Thanks.. x_x;

open up a command prompt

type "ipconfig /all > c:\ipstuff.txt" without the quotes

Copy the contents of ipstuff.txt in a post and lets see what you have.

You can use Vista's super annoying new Network and Sharing Centre to find out which of the interfaces is the one actually connected to the internet, it'll be under the network that has both Local and Internet under Access:

Click View Status and the Details tab to find out the Default Gateway

If you're plugged directly into your Motorolla Modem, you will not need to perform any port forwarding because all packets will be forwarded to your PC as it is directly connected. You'll just need to open the port in your PC's firewall if you have one. Your modem probably doesn't have any sort of web of web interface apart from maybe some diagnotic tools loaded by your ISP.

If however, your modem is connected to a router, you will need to log-in to your router to forward the ports and allow it in the router's firewall. Most routers use 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1 as their default address so unless you've changed it, try them.

If you're in the UK, Orange Liveboxes use 192.168.1.1 by default and just to be annoyingly unique, BT's Home Hubs use 192.168.1.254.

try this, go to run and type CMD in the box
then ablock box should open, type ipconfig/all
that should do it for me, it worked for me.

How on earth do you log on to your router? Just by connecting? need a little bit more of an explaination here

type 192.168.1.1 in the url bar and hit enter. You should be prompted for a username and password to login to the router.
start from there.
