fps issues
« on: May 29, 2008, 04:50:36 PM »
I just recently bought a new video card for my computer.  My old ATI that came with the computer got around 340 or so fps in dp.  But it couldn't do much of anything for CS:S.  So I got a NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GT (I know not awesome but for $100 it works for me) and another 2 GB of ram so i'm at 3GB total.  It boosted my CS:S fps 100+ easily.  But for some reason I get about the same fps in dp.  It just stays around 340 and not even like above usually below.  I don't use hr4 textures and my resolution is 480x640 or something like that on fullscreen.  I have the newest drivers and everything that I know of.  So is there like a setting or something I might have changed or something that can affect frame rate that much?

And yes my cl_maxfps is 0.

OK,

You've got 340 and don't think that's enough?
* KnacK should be so lucky...

Anyway, did you completely remove your old drivers?
1. Boot in safe mode
2. Uninstall drivers
3. Reboot.
4, Install new card and drivers.

If you didn't do that, that could be your issue.

Why boot in safemode?

It uses built in drivers, thus usually locking you resolution at 640x480x16 (or similar).

Why do you even need a framerate like that? Over 60 for me means no slowdown at all...

The engine uses ms as a time measurement and ensures at least 1ms passes between frames (there would probably be some divide by 0's or other issues if the time passed was 0).
