How about servers and admins provide some no curse rules
« on: September 20, 2008, 01:03:21 AM »
like i have noticed in many servers in different games they prohibit cursing and enforce it.  y cant we have some kind of bot that would kick on first offense and temp ban on second on third have like a two day ban for that server.\
if we had good admins that would kick players when cursing or providing a negative attitude that would quickly change.
at least if we started with a couple servers hopefully GT and errt. it would make this game a positive atmosphere and it will have more people playing.

but then again is there any1 willing to sacrifice some time and effort for this game?. or server admins?

It's all up to the admins, really.

If there was a bot that would do that, I am sure some admins would use it.

What a bad idea. That would ruin this game.

Paintball *does* have a swear filter, but its word list is a bit limited and non-customizable*.

*Well, you can always successfully directly edit the .dll/.so file, but you're limited still.

Iced, if you ran a server, or even saw a server config, I'm pretty sure you would've seen:

set swear_filter 0

Its just a serverside setting, I personally find it useless.

Why is that?  You play this game solely for the purpose of reading the profanity kids spout on the public servers?

I think ultimately the best solution is a client-side word filter.  That way you can set it up to filter out profanity on any sever, if that's what you want.  Or you could just use it to block some of the stupid binds some people spam.

Let's build on that idea:

A client side setting that not only enables you to create a custom word filter, but also a bind filter and an ignore filter, to permanently ignore those that you never want to hear from.

Profanity is one of the only reasons I love to play a pub game. All those other kids are yelling at eachother, calling eachother newbies and I can sit back and laugh.

if its possible to include an option like 3 strikes and your temp-ban. also i saw a different server back in the day that was spewing out rules for the server. -uR- was thinking about starting a couple servers where rules would apply. after 3 strikes you would get an 8 hour ban. this would include matching servers if its a bot it would be better also just in case we would be matching another clan. and if a player gets banned for cursing the other team or overall in chat we wont unban so it would keep a positive attitude and also so people wont regret coming back to this game after they quit. to many people come back look at people swearing in pubs and think WTH did i come back and leave again. also the big brother bot which iced has mentioned is very effective for call of duty if we could clone that for DP2 it would be perfect but i doubt that is possible, good luck though

That server that spewed out rules (and build upgrade notices, stats at the end of the round, etc.) was probably mine, I assume.

Well, I was referring to his second sentence. My Paintball server ran my own bot that did spew out the rules.
