Price for iPod Touch 1st Generation
« on: March 21, 2009, 02:25:01 AM »
I'm thinking selling my iPod Touch 1st Gen 16GB (i bought it for $500), so I'm wondering first of all before you read below, what would you buy a used one, no scratches on the screen as it has had screen protectors on it, and about 2 and a half years of warranty (2 extra years of warranty cost me $50) for?  I'm not sure what I should sell it for, and please state the currency, AUD differs to US largely :P.  Consider a price for what you read above and remember that figure.

Now that you have considered that, I'm not sure if people know this, but when the iPhone 3.0 firmware comes out, it activates Bluetooth on the 2nd Gen only, and does all of this other excrement that mine wont be able to do, and thats why I want to buy one, but I need to sell mine first.  Now consider a price for my iPod after reading that stuff about the 3.0 firmware.

I found sites like e-bay pretty useless when I searched, so I figured i'd ask to hear peoples opinions.  I basically just need to know how much extra money I will need to get the 16GB 2nd gen, and start saving up :).

So you've owned this for half a year? ipod batteries only last ~1.5 years, so it definitely was a good call getting the extended.
If you're going to sell it on ebay or something like that just leave off the fact it is first gen and you should have no troubles getting rid of it.
I'm going to guess and say you could prob sell it for 250-300 CAD.

250-300CAD is about 290-350AUD, and thats a pretty good price I'd think, and yes I'm going to try and get rid of it on ebay, then just buy a new one from a local store with the extended warranty.  And yeah, I was thinking about leaving the fact that it was first gen off the list, because I saw a few people doing that.

pirate - is that a 2nd hand one?

And I just found this, and that looks like a 1st Gen, so I guess 270-280 would be a good starting price, and that has the extented warranty as well.

Yeah, but it varies. The simplest way to buy the cheapest is to just go ipod touch 32gb --> MP3 players --> buy it now --> sort by Price + P&P from low to high and scroll until you see a genuine one. That's always what i do, then bookmark the page and come back to it whenever. Then buy the moment you see someone idiotically put up a really cheap one.

I can't really dog on you here. I usually sell things WAY over priced, because I try to sell to the kind of people that really need it and are willing to pay anything to have it. That allows me to put whatever price on what I'm selling, as long as it's reasonable.

I don't see why you can't at least make a good $250 off it. I'd say put the reserve price to about $225ish and figure in the shipping costs. If it's not too much, throw it in for free as a better incentive to buy.

Well, I have had it in my MSN comment and one of my friends popped up willing to buy it off me, and he said he was happy to pay $250 for it, as long as I kept all of the movies I had on it.  So just hopefully that goes through, cos I wanna get teh new one before I move house and not have a computer for a couple of weeks :\.

All your prices are quite high... The new chrome ones or whatever (8GB) are only $180AUD...
So I think sell at $140-180AUD.
It's the older one and it's used...

Oh my mistake...
Lol my reading errors at school have caused really big mistakes...  ;)

Anyway... new price...
Umm... the regular ones (8GB and new) sell for about $300AUD I think when on sale or a good place... so i'd go for between $200-250AUD.
