Sunday Showdown #3--PbCup Pforest--Congrats to eR33t
« on: March 22, 2009, 09:11:15 PM »

eR33t won the tourney. Congrats.

And thank you to Nub, Bix and Olbaid for the help getting things lined up for the tournament.

I will be gone this Sunday night. I need someone who does NOT have a team in the tourney to set up brackets and settle any disputes by watching demos.

Here are the details:

IRC Channel: #sundayshowdown

- Each team must have at least one representative in the irc channel by start of game.
- USA servers only.
- first 8 teams to sign up can participate.
- 3 vs 3, teams of up to 5, subs allowed during the match.
- deadline for signing up teams and for finalizing rosters for each team is Sunday at 6:00 PM Eastern time.
- demos need only be provided if there is a dispute or suspicion of hacking. In either of those cases they will go to the judge who will settle the dispute. There will be no in-game referees, so try to work out your own issues.
- The judge will determine the brackets.
- There is only ONE map total for the showdown each week. Each match consists of two teams playing on that one map for ONE game.  The map for this Sunday is yet to be determined.
- The tournament is single elimination.
- The tournament will be held from 7-9 Eastern.
- If teams want to have their friends spec them just to watch that is fine. No talking if you are an observer.
-If there are any disputes over which team gets which color the team that signed up first in the tournament will get their choice of color.
- Prizes--no prizes, though if the project takes off I will list all previous winners in the next thread for a little reputation boost.

Previous winners:

March 15, Propaint 1, 3iob defeats SQ in finals.
March 22, Sphouse, 3iob defeats eR33t in finals.

Discuss map options. Right now I am thinking of

ccc
sandassult
pbcup sandassault
pbcup pforest
Propaint2

I personally believe pbcup_pforest is slightly over played currently. Pbcup_renoir might be a really good choice since it really isn't seen in the American clan scene. The map involves speed, teamwork, and skill. Two flags also seems to involve a lot more teamwork and skill.

PS to m7. I could definitely help organize and get the tourney going although i'll most likely be playing (3iob).

Save ccc for when you do a week of 4v4 or 5v5. Out of those choices I would pick sandassault.

I can't believe i'm saying this but i agree with bix on pbcup_pforest. We should bring back the OLD maps and when i mean old i mean like HellSurvivor, cfire, cancan and lots more.

Navy...if you knew anything about the relatively 'old' days you would know that no one wants to play cfire or cancan. Midnight is actually a pretty sick map, although it is easily camped. I still am going to stick with pbcup_renoir since it isn't played much, if at all, in the American match scene (which this tourney is).

I thought starz and farmstarz had it as a map for a while that they played?

It seems that no clear consensus is forming on the map, which is actually a good thing, as it means that they are all pretty viable.

But I have gotten a LOT of requests for pforest over the last three weeks in-game and in IRC. So for now I will give in to popular demand.

----------

A couple of people offered help on the tourney and I would like to take them up on the offer.

Bix offered in the forum and Olbaid by IRC. (er I am 90 percent sure it was Olbaid, meant to write it down when I headed out to work this morning but did not do so).

I could really use the help getting people into the servers and coordinating the reservation of them.

I will try to find one person who's team is not playing who I think can make any calls on demos and form the actual brackets.

But you two could definitely help with the communications role in vent and irc.

I decided on Pbcup Pforest, simply because a lot of folks asked for it the last three weeks.

Next week we can go obscure again. Some folks objected to sphouse, but I think it worked well. But I also want to give folks the chance to play maps they really like that are currently played as well.

Disappointed, very. Why should we play a map we play nearly every match?

The very fact that you play it every match means someone likes it.

Sorry, but I got a lot of requests for it. And if folks enjoy it I will use it.

Super was rather happy about the announcement :)

If anyone knows a person who is:

a. not on a team that will be playing
b. is credible
c. is fair
d. can set up brackets
e. can make decisions on demos
f. that can be there Sunday

Please let me know.

I can see why pbcup_pforest is a good pick since almost every clan will agree to it as a tie map.

However I like the idea of playing old maps that don't get played very often
