I think pure and jeejee are implying to the simple fact that we DONT meddling WANT ANOTHER SPEEDJUMP AWFUL MAP LIKE TATRAS AND WHATNOT THOSE NEWMAPS ARE NOW.
k, i looked up some post i made in some other topic, which is really a bit more constructive than the sentence above...
I'd also would like to say that everything, what has been said in this thread, is true, but I do have some things what I would like to get out.
1. Jumps are good. At first sight it would appear that the mapper is creative and has put some thought into jumps and finding flow in the map. But actually, lots of the new maps released lately, have so called speed jumps. They are easy to master. If you can't do a speed/ice jump you are a failure and most likely get capped on. I remember when I made my first map, the most popular map was propaint (or was pp1 already out?). I decided to add a side path, which had ice as surface, because the low route in pp was so fun. Now look at maps by czechs. Prolandr, tatras (maybe something else). They all have ice route, which is the fastest. And in my opinion, so meddling boring. There is no flow in the map. It is hard to shoot someone, when he is travelling with 130 speed. You can't even shoot at some specific spot, because you know hes gonna use that way (spray), because he is so fast a line wouldn't hit him. For that specific reason I think that tatras will never be a popular map amongst people, who browse around their maps folder and find the map. Prolandr on the other hand has something else as well, besides those ice jumps you can do, so it is much better map, in my opinion.
The poiint is that I feel that those speed/ice jumps are well overrated by mappers.
Another example of speed jumps would be shazam series. In early shazam's you couldnt go from high to base very fast. In shazam22 you can. On shazam33 it is very simple. Lets say you are on a 3v3. You decide to take low. The opponent team rushes from high and kills your 2 teammates. You are left 1v3. The opponent team grabs and rushes to cap. You are still low, because 1 of the opponents tries to kill you, but you killed him first, but as the opponent could hide for awhile you have lost excrementload of time. Now the flagcarrier comes from your high. You shoot him but as he gets quite a good speed (like you get when u go up from base), you cant him him. You get capped. In my opinion its too much of a punishment. On early shazams this wouldnt happen. (yes, i know, shazam33 atleast isnt as campable as early shazams, but thats not what im talking about atm).
Uhh... All i'm saying that maps should have flow. Having 1 specific route that dominates the other routes is pointless. There's no flow in that.
floooooooooooooowwwwwwwwwwwwwww, like a river
