xMAPCOM Fall / Winter 2009 Contest
« on: September 25, 2009, 08:27:21 PM »
Here is the 1st Official xMAPCOM Contest, organized with results from the beta competition in mind.
Please join, do not hesitate. New mappers are extremely welcome.

Theme Name: Ruins of War

Theme Details: When would destroyed buildings and damaged ruins be a positive thing? Only when they're part of a map in DP! According to posts and replies on DPLogin, a post-disaster, destroyed theme was extremely popular. Now, xMAPCOM is helping you develop your detailing skills by hosting this season's contest with the "Ruins" theme in mind. This contest will be starting slightly early, a week before the beginning of October, but this is because the contest will end before Christmas Eve.

Please read the General Rules and Conditions for further details.

Doubleposting to keep the first post official.

So as I said before, anyone willing to team up with me, do most of the work and let me fix it up?

All entries must be original.

so, no remakes? When i read the theme, a map I once wanted to make, came into my head and I thought it would fit this theme pretty well..

@ All mappers: If u want to see ur map on the speed server, don't make it too small and add enough spawns. Thats not a rule from the contest, but it could make ur map very popular. Have fun :)

As long as you haven't started the map before this announcement, or that you haven't based your entry on any other originals, then you're good to go.

Nope, I read the theme and an old map idea just came into my head and I thought that it would work nice with that theme. So lets go female doges.

Why do you make the theme so narrow? You could have left it as something like 'ruins' rather than the 'ruins of war.' I mean doing that just broadens the variety of maps that we are getting rather than a bunch of ww2 maps..

Me and jeejee are working as a team and we took post ww2 to just mean recent, not the immediate aftermath.

If I join a team or make a map independently, I'm going to ignore the whole ww2 thing, and just make some awesome destroyed area.

You guys have no sense of creativity and analytical skills. Who said "war" as in "man vs man"? War could be between nature and man, which basically means the theme could be post WWII, a nuclear disaster, a hurricane aftermath, a post-earthquake event, etc.... Thanks for "RUIN"ing the fun.

EDIT: I see what you mean, it's more the theme explanation than the name. Fixed.

Ok, I'm going to sign up, too. I don't know if I'll have enough time, but I can try it. It's not short time till the submission deadline date so I hope I could make something.
