New Map: The Siege Fort
« on: May 15, 2010, 09:56:00 AM »
This is the first map i release. It was made by me and jeejee.
This is a one flag siege map. We took some ideas from scsiege.
Textures included, but it would be better if you'd download the ctp pack.
Have fun !

The last screenshot looks funny. Easy brushwork, but that could be also nice. Does this map leak? Some screenshots are looking weird.

I will have a look at this map later.

Yes, it leaks. But it is online at [OTB] Beta.

It looks very good. I can't find a misaligned texture atm :)
The style is a little bit like the ksplat maps. I like that.

Screenshot: I miss a box and a little bit more light on that place.

It actually leaks. But i'll try to figure where it is opened, because it wasnt leaking before i added entities and lights. So i maybe moved something when i was adding lights.
I'll add that box, and do some better work with lights on the whole map.

I like it. Nice flow of jumps and numerous routes.

There's just one thing; this barrel is stopping me from entering the fort from the bd with speed. Did you put it there because of that?

Yes, i put it here to prevent some speed jumps, and make it a little bit easier to defend. Do you think i should remove it ?

It would definitely improve the jump flow when bding. You can line it anyway.

Slow maps are the more strategic ones :)  Newbie friendly as well.

Wow, great job, I like this map. Can't believe that this should be the first map you release.

For a first beta it's nearly perfect. Only the leak is a no-go. Fix it :D After that some problems with the lighting could be solved too. I wouldn't change anything on the lighting before the leak isn't fixed. Maybe you have to search on the left ramp for it. There are some crazy and very small dents.

No, it's placed there very good as a little speed blocker.

Back to the lighting. You could add the _sun_diffuse key to the worldspawn. Maybe the sun light will look better after that.

As I saw in the .bsp, that there are just three spawns for each team. That's not enough in my opinion. I would prefer six or more spawns for each team.

At least a few screenshots with some little and some bigger things.

This is the only texture, where the alignment doesn't look ok. Rotate some faces like one of the two following screenshots.

Maybe rotate the sides...

...or the top of the cross.

Please add clip brushes in these red areas. It would make a better gameplay if there wouldn't be edges where you can get blocked while running/jumping (outside in the screenshot and the same inside without a pic :P)

Shouldn't be this face gras? Looks a little bit weird because on the left and right side is gras in this height.

I mean the base in this screenshot. I don't know if it would be better, but the base is very small at the moment. With this little changes defenders can get on the plateau and have some more place to defend. I'm not really sure, but I would prefer the bigger base. Maybe it's helpful if some other people could post their opinion about this possible change.

Horrible...Horrible looking and horrible to fix. I'm sure this problem with the "wallhack" couldn't be solved by fixing the leak. I had the same problems while making discovery. I know that there is a possibility to avoid those "wallhacks" with hint brushes, but I haven't managed so far. Manage it and tell me how (please :)) or make the wall higher. You have to work hard on this place definitely.

All the red lines show you the edges where you can get blocked while running/jumping. I would make one big ladder clip brush here.
You can also have a look at this ladder tutorial.

Keep on working this map. You are on a very good way to make a very nice siege map. There are not so many siege maps and people don't play them very often, but they are always funny ;)

Ugh, I hate that problem, had it on a few maps I was working on that made me give up :P
You need to put a hint brush above the wall and sky both sides of it, iirc. Takes ages to get right and is nasty when it's done, but it works usually.

I love the idea and the mechanics of the map, but the lighting has got to be fixed, it has such a boring setting like that.

Props

I don't like how exposed the top of the base is.

It would be more helpful for the mappers if people could explain why they don't like a map ;)

That wouldn't seem right, I mean all you'd do is get stuck. It's also not Newbie friendly because theyvwoul get stuck on it and maybe get mad. I know I would've awhile ago. I wouldn't put a clip there but it's the map makers final decision.

I also love the map. When this si a final release this will be my match map!!
