New video card didn't improve fps
« on: April 22, 2006, 10:46:30 PM »
I have recently bought a new video card and was hoping I would see an improvement in my fps. However, they seem to be the same (hovering at around 57-58). I have asked some people what they think the problem is ,but none of them could figure it out. I would really appreciate any help with this.                                                                                                                                                                      -Razr

This is most commonly caused by vertical sync (often referred to as vsync).  Set gl_swapinterval to 0 to disable it.  You may also need to go into your driver settings to disable it.  cl_locknetfps and cl_maxfps can cause this, too.  Set them both to 0.

Raz,

Your card might have a GUI interface that has a check off for this and another setting for all environments.

After thought, how is your FPS on simular generation engine.

Turned out somehow cl_locknetfps was set to 1. Now I'm gettin around 300 - 450FPS.                                                                                                                                Thx :)

That's because your monitor is only rendering at 60Hz, so naturally, you can't tell the difference between 60fps and 200fps.  If you increase your display refresh rate, you might be able to notice a difference.
