I used to be an nVidia fan before I got a new system with integrated ATi Radeon. 6x anti-aliasing is awesome! Whitch do you prefer?

nVidia, I currently run a GeForce 7900GT that does all I need it to, I had bought an ATI X1900XTX only to find that the latest ATI drivers for linux that claimed to support it wouldn't cooperate with it, it then fried in windows while playing TombRaider:Legend..., which was ridiculous because the waranty covered it for overclocking to some point, and yet it fried without overclocking it.

Hopefully when AMD buys ATI they'll work on some better drivers and software support.  8)

There are a few choices of drivers, you can use the gpl, or their are a few private drivers. I know this by using eLive whitch apon inital boot gives you driver choices for video. By the way, this is a poll.

nVidia.  I had an ATI and had driver problems on windows.  It also had heat issues and would lock up all the time.  I built a new system with an nvidia card and it has yet to lock up or crash.

Nvidia is way better than ATI, since a lot of ATI's cards only has OpenGL 1.5, 2.0 is standard of Nvidia!

Nvidia cards have better shaders too!

um...no, ATI cards have better shaders, ATI chipsets are actually really good, they just need to improve on their software/drivers and the companies that use those chipsets in their cards need to have them cooled properly. Before my X1900XTX fried, it was running way better than any card I'd ever used before (in windows).
In linux I love nvclock, if you don't have it and you're an OC'er then I recommend it.

Aren't the shaders standardized more or less?  How do you qualify which ones are "better"?

I don't want to push my card - it runs hot enough as it is.  It actually heats up the whole room lol

I've always used and ATi card for DP, and been fine.  Currently I'm useing an ATi x600pro 128mb external and get 600+ fps, although i cap it at 300.  Before i had anATi Radeon 7000 series, it was a 64mb card and i got an even 60fps.  Never had to update drivers or anything.  But if you're looking for the best cards on the market then I'd go with nVidia.  Why? because they are getting more ppularity than ATi, their cards our perform ATi (especially when overclocking) and im general run quieter and cooler than ATi cards.  Not to meantion that for a while the geForce 6600GT outperformed every ATi card on the market, and it took ATi about 3 cards (x800 x1600 x1800) in order to match its power only to be overwhelmed with the new 7200.
