I will explain some of the reasons why. One reason is that they feel that they may be able to offer some insight on the topic at hand. Another is that there is something they simply want to say in relation to the topic or a response therein. They may also just want to spam the forums and have picked that thread at random. A far more sinister reason, that you have used, is that they want to irritate someone. I now refer to the link above.
