Then it also involves firewalls when it blocks incoming connections into your computer. you have to allow it through the firewall unless your walls broken . Then you need bob the builder to fix it.

It helps but it isn't required.  You might have to redo it every few days if you don't have a static address.

your suppose to put in your LAN ip (modem ip) which every deivce gets once connected to that modem, that LAN ip doesn't change even if you don't have static ip, in a dynamic ip your external ip is the one that changes, so in other words your LAN ip should not be change what so ever, unless you change it, and you are suppose to be using your LAN ip on the port fowarding

dynamic lan ip can change, just depends how long the router holds it for.  since he hasnt port forwarded before i highly doubt hes got a static lan ip set up.

ok so I have 2 computers ones newer and ones a little on the older side. so on my new computer when I do run cmd ip config it tells me the ipv4 address and on the old it says ip address. which one should I use.

Is your old running xp? On windows xp I think that we're it says ip; it means ipv4.
you can check by right clicking on my computer I think.

Plus isn't that the internal ip of that machine so it should be different for both.

Might be: 192.168.0.(1-10) usually.

Your router must drop dynamic IP's really quickly once they disconnect or something for that to happen.

yes i closed the server and it doesnt go public again
