Funnier: You have nothing to do but seek popular guests on this forum.

this kind of stuff exist in every website on the internet. Also, I know some website(s) that had literally millions of users; but got reduced down to a couple of thousands users( still decreasing) because of extreme case(s) of spamming, bots etc.. They had to close down regrestions to the website, to prevent this.

Count of moderators should be relative to number of active users, everyone knows that, but jitspoe still thinks he has to do everything. Fussion seems to enjoy finding those abusers, so maybe he should have moderator to do this and mostly this (i.e. moderator helper or sth).

This forum has 4 or 5 moderators.
Does any of them do any work? As I see you are doing most of work? Why you don't let them work, and consume your time on something that only you can do?
If I don't know who is moderating, and I'm not new, it probably means they don't have ability to do enough. You should think about giving them more freedom.
But still: Thanks for correcting my mistake.

Sometimes having more moderators can create more work, because then I have to deal with all the, "This guy is a bad moderator!" nonsense.  Most of the mods have gotten busy with other things in life and don't frequent the forums much anymore.  Most of the active posters can't be trusted with moderating responsibilities.

What? How can they be bad moderators if they don't do anything, lol. Also: You get more email anyway, so I think complaining is just little bit.

You won't know who you can trust unless you trust them, jitspoe. If somebody doesn't ask to be moderator and is posting for longer amount of time, he is good moderator most likely.
I wish jitspoe you trusted people a bit more. It would help everyone in the end because every bad people can be replaced with two good people.

yo ill moderate for you, im more than happy to spend my time deleting posts from payl/fussion/deathstar etc.

I GOT YO BACK JITS, DONT YOU WORRY BOUT NOTHING

but legitly, theres always active members who can be trusted with relatively menial responsibilities. in most of these people's cases it wouldnt even be a risk, just simple delegation.

Can I become a mod? I know I am most likely the least trusted person in this game for this game; but since I go on this website a lot, I think I can become a good mod (I will agree to the agreements and terms too). That said, you could just give me power only to just hunt down bots. If I do anything that is "bad" insta ban me (perma ban). I will respect that power given to me; I shall use it with responsibility

Edit: I respected Flip as a Mod, although he has his reasoning for giving up that position, I still believe he was a great mod and should have continued

Ever since Fryth accidentally did a "delete posts older than 30 days" or something along those lines, I've been pretty hesitant to give people that kind of power/responsibility.

As for Flip.  I don't think he ever really "gave up" the position.  He's just busy doing other things with his life.

It was just an option in SMF.  I'm not sure why you would ever want that.

Seriously jitspoe, want me to fix code for you? I have SMF in same version installed just by accident, want a patched version?
I know jitspoe that "something went wrong" happened for you, but I believe it's not reason to close door for people. This is case for everything. Look this way: If you pay people that do something for you, they can screw up, and you paid them. Does that mean you don't let anyone drive car for you (he can kill you), fix your car (he can screw up)? No, you depend on many people. It's pretty much same here: If you let correct people on correct position, they won't screw up, and you can always restore from backup. You won't even pay them. Eventually you will find good people, of course if you change your mind on this.

Also: This is another reason to backup your database, it's not that it can't fail you.
Smart admin has copy and copy-of-copy of his database, and this can happen just randomly, without admins failing.
