Need help manually joining a server that's not on the list

how do i join a server thats not on the server list, they give me the ip and a port

so im guessing i have to type something in the console, what might that be?

connect (ip)

so it would be /connect **.**.**.**:*****?

Also when i do type that in and its password protected what would i type for the password/login

(i know the pass and login i just dont know what to type in the console. (my awsome error message makes it to where i cant see what its telling me in the console))

pass- password (pass)
login- login (login pass)

i typed /connect **.**.**.**:***** and i get bad password connection refused

so would i type /pass (password)?

When it says connection refused then you type password (password).
