Crash early in tutorial on build 38 and 40...
« on: June 27, 2014, 09:38:30 AM »
Hi there - I downloaded build 40 onto my 64-bit Ubuntu 13.10 machine, made sure the 32 bit libraries were installed (each time I tried to run and it reported a missing library, I went and found it and installed)

Once it started up fine, it got about 20 seconds into the tutorial, and then I got kicked, with error: "Corrupt/missing files or severe packet loss.  You may need to reinstall if this happens again."

And it refuses to let me back into the game - strange to be kicked when I'm a single player not conected to any other servers?

I also installed build 38 and got same result. The crash happens whether I move around the tutorial arena, or just stay still, after about 20-30 seconds....

Try to open the console(press ~) and enter connect htmldp.com:22222. You should connect to my speed server, maybe you will be able to play.
It may be a problem with running a local server I think but I'm not sure.

Nope - connected to your server, it downloaded the arena and placed me in it, 10 seconds in, it gave the same error as above - I notice it also says (in both cases, local and remote server) - "noname2028 failed build check" - any other ideas??

My guess would be that some library call meant for a 32bit lib is calling a 64bit lib, but I would have no idea to track down how - the game isn't segfaulting or crasing, it's simply kicking me out the arena within the game...

Do you have the latest version (38 or 40)?
This message means that you dont have the minimum build required to connect to a server.

Happens on 38 and 40 - strange! Any way I can produce more debug info? Or any way I can override the build check? I only want to play on a local machine

Nope. There is another message for it.
I think just jitspoe knows, what "build check" mean.

you don't get a hold of him; he gets a hold of you. He is the Jesus in reality and in game. (Hence jitspoe)

jk. PM him here: http://dplogin.com/forums/index.php?action=pm;sa=send;u=3

Or "Contact" him here: http://digitalpaint.org/contact.html

You will need 32bit versions of the following libraries to run this game: libgcrypt, libgpg-error, libjpeg, libpng12, libstdc++, libpthread, libgcc_s, libXxf86vm, libXau, libXdmcp, libXext, libXdamage, libXfixes, libdrm, libX11, libGL, libxcb, libz, libdl, librt, libm, libc.

Do you have all those?  (Linux support is such a pain...)

You might actually have better luck running the Win32 version with Wine.

Installing wine solved the problem, but not as you might think. While wine was installing, I noticed heaps of 32 bit libs installing. Tried running Linux version after wine installed, works perfectly now
