Any advice on CPU/ GPU?
« on: October 29, 2014, 06:39:43 PM »
I've been asking around for amd vs intel and amd vs nvidia and i just wondered what other people think.
Budget for the CPU and GPU get both for ~£200
Thinking of AMD FX 6350 and GTX 750 TI FTW.
Can this render a video, play a game on high 50-60 fps (e.g. smite), run ts3 and chrome at the same time?
Should i go intel/ amd if i want good price per performance, good multitasking and a quiet machine.
Also thinking of:
R9 270x
my friend has a watercooled R9 280x for £125
gtx 660
gtx 550 ti
do i need a better CPU if i want to use this pc for 3-4 years?

I think a gtx660 and fx6350 is one of the best combos out there for the price. Switch out the 660 for a 760, or the 6350 for a i3 4150. Obviously spending more would be ideal, but that setup will get you 45-60 fps in most things with high settings. Ultra settings will probably still put you 30-45 occasionally.

There is no point in upgrading the cpu without upgrading the gpu. Next step up that makes sense to buy would be 770 / i5.

770 set me back $430AUD, so the 200 pounds would barely cover the GPU alone on the budget, but that build works perfect for me though.

@Mission: I previously I had a 550Ti with my current 2500k overclocked and it'd go well on most things, but stuggled with HD textures on Skyrim, and BF4 and COD ghosts were unplayable unless I dropped quality to around medium, so I'd be looking higher than that.  Depending on what your CPU is you might be able to get away with just upgrading the GPU like I did.

Intel/nvidia is the combo to go with.

I had no trouble with BF3 with my 2500k and a GTX 560ti. Didn't play on all ultra, but mostly high settings and it was smooth.

intel i5 (i3 sucks, i7 is unnessesery)
i5 4560 and geforce gtx 750ti, amd r9 280x, gtx 680, gtx 760

gtx 750ti is not so expensive and i5 neither.
